I've moved between moneymanager ex and microsoft money, both do the job well, but microsoft money just seems to be more polished.

I still use MS Money, tried other alternatives but so far nothing seems to match it. Shame really as I'd like something with those features that is also cloud/app enabled too.

  • I don't care how old MS Money is, its still Fab and I've used it for 11 years.

    MoneyTree? http://www.moneytree.com/

    It is rather expensive though.

You could keep your backup file in the cloud perhaps?

I do keep backup in cloud, in fact my main file is in a cloud storage directory so gets kept in sync but I still need to install the software to use it

I used to use gnucash but now use money manager ex. Fantastic software that shares accounts between devices, and runs my own reports that I can write which even shows charts etc. Very very powerful and very under rated on the forums.

I really don't see what the fuss is about MS money. Each to their own though.

Another vote for MS Money from me too - been using it for years. Have over 60 accounts set up on it (let alone the numerous old closed accounts) but maintaining those is quick and easy.

Have tried a number of the alternatives mentioned but none seem to fit the bill or would require too steep a learning curve. I would love to be able to upate using the iPad (which is partly why I looked at some of the others) but I can live without that.

Was concerned when MS stopped the online shares price updates , but now that there is the Gaiersoft stock price download fix (well worth the $9 or whatever it was) all is well again.

I think I have seen several mentions a free stock price download somewhere on this forum. Worth searching for it if you want a free option.

Failing that, I can recommend AceMoney, which is pretty much identical to MS Money except it is supported and downloads any stock prices, and it also has a really easy way of importing your entire history from MS Money.
