They are currently offering Sky+ and broadband, if you take line rental. I got this offer, after ignoring the 50% off plus £50 credit, after cancelling tv. (I was still in, but near the end of, minimum term with phone and bb, so would have got this for just retaining the line rental )

Are you locked into a 12 month contract?
On that offer -no; but I've accepted a better offer (60% plus £100 credit) which does include a tie in for 12 months -but I'm not bothered about that as I'm getting a new HD+ box, more channels and everything in HD for almost exactly the same annual cost as I paid last year for a reduced package in SD( ~ £250pa) - An effective saving vs Sky book price of over £540 pa :T
  • Hi, I'm thinking of purchasing sky sports one for Christmas with the original bundle. Not with broadband or phone packages. I don't want to get ripped off though. Does anyone have any tips on getting the best deal?

I'm thinking of switching to Sky's little-publicised FreeSat service after Game of Thrones has aired this year. Has anyone switched from being a paying Sky TV customer to their Freesat service? If so, could you please let me know whether you can still use your Sky box to record programmes? Wikipedia says, "In addition, use of the recording facilities of these PVRs also requires an ongoing monthly fee." Could anyone confirm or deny this? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freesat_from_Sky

    Many thanks.

No need to pay Sky for a Freesat From Sky viewing card. Simply cancel your Sky TV service and your existing decoder will continue to receive all the Free-To-Air channels regardless.

However, if you want to continue recording I suggest you purchase a Freesat PVR decoder. This one-off purchase will be ultimately far cheaper than paying Sky £10 a month for Sky+ functionality…

    Edit:
I see this thread has been "merged", so my comments above seem to be repeating what has already been said...

If you did need recording functionality then IMO this is a better option:

    http://www.humaxdirect.co.uk/refurbished/hdr-1000s-500gb-dd125d.html

It would pay for itself within 10 months compared to the Sky recording fee and has a backward rolling EPG + on-demand.
