How do you want your conveyancing handled?

My sellers solicitors did that and it wasn't until we were chasing them that we were told. Just give us a heads up so we can work around holiday and make sure we get things to them before a set date.
This really annoyed us. We went with a local solicitor only to find out that our named solicitor was getting married. She took a two week 'pre-wedding' holiday abroad, three weeks off for the wedding and then two weeks off for the honeymoon - literally nothing got done on our sale for seven weeks and we only found out she wasn't there when we chased to find out what was happening. I totally appreciate that people take holidays and get married, but if our solicitors had been honest with us then we would have taken our business elsewhere as for various reasons we needed a fast sale. What was also irritating was that there was no-one covering her work, we ended up making a complaint and getting our sale transferred to another solicitor in the practice. He was fine but it was hassle we didn't need.0

Reasonably local guy in a fairly large regional firm and not prepared to do it for a cut price but he is very thorough and i'm sure drives the EAs mad with his insistence that questions get answered properly. He's also willing to do things like look at the property on google maps to increase his understanding of issues - not sure a conveyancing firm would do that.
Yes, but is one expected to supply and pay for all the solicitors/conveyancers within the chain?
I do not use the cheap nationals but I have no control over the choices of others so not really going to help much.
Of all the interested parties, it staggers the imagination that the calls that are overburdening solicitors (the OP suggests) are the non paying, non client EAs...
 @ OP
Can't you just give them an alternative DL? In any event, put your clients first, return THEIR calls and communicate with the other solicitors in the chain on a regular basis so that the relevant vendors/buyers know where they are. They can then update the respective EAs accordingly themselves.
It's not rocket science, so if you cannot provide that level of service consistently, you have too much work for your business model.
Yes overheads are high, so charge more and do less cases - properly.:)0
