Trouble getting certified copies of documents

Can anyone help please? I'm trying to switch from RBS to First Direct. Filled out the online forms etc: They are requesting "certified copies of my Proof of Identity and address. I can't find anyone to do this without going to a notary, which would cost me £70-£80 pound. They won't accept original documents!I've contacted my MP, but he says he can't do it...

The Post Office do a certified copy service. I used it for my identity documents when applying for a mortgage.0

Thank you, but they won't accept the Post Office Service...0

Why do you want to switch to a bank that makes it so difficult for you to join?0

Thinking the same thing myself...!!!
I was really just wondering if other people had experienced the same issue...0 -
Any solicitor can provide certified copies of documents, usually their fee will be in the region of £5 per document.
Alternatively any "Professional" can also certify documents (know and friendly doctors, accountants, architects, teachers etc?), but whether your bank accept these will depend how anal the bank is. If the bank won't accept documents certified by the post office i'd just tell them to shove their account and go elsewhere.0 -
Thanks everyone, the list of "acceptable" persons is very restrictive, so i'm just going to tell them to stick it....!!!0

Tried asking in a branch of HSBC? They own FD, I think..?breathe in, breathe out- You're alive! Everything else is a bonus, right? RIGHT??0

I had no problem when I opened an account.
I changed my surname recently which means I tend to always get these sorts of requests when opening account, but they were more than happy to accept original documents. Perhaps it's work giving them another call? You may have just had the bad luck to be connected to a deliberately unhelpful agent.0 -
You asked your MP to certify your documents
Talk about inappropriate :rotfl:This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Try looking harder for a solicitor or notary that charges a more reasonable fee. Random example: http://www.morrisonspowart.com/deeds.htmlLet's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
On a rotating plate, with spikes like Flash Gordon
And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning0
