Roaming On O2 Payg Advice Needed

Hi
I am going to franch for a few weeks i want to take a o2 pay as you sim card with me . If i top this up in the uk by £30 i will receive 1000 txts can i use any of these txt while in france i read some where that o2 class any one txt sent when roaming as 4 normal txts is this correct . Also are there any bolt ons i could use to reduce the call costs .
All advice welcome

you cant use your texts out of your allowance but it seems to let you send pic messages out of it well it did for me in spain0
