The cheapest option for us was BA to London then Thai to BKK then on to Krabi for a few days before Samui( free domestic flight with Thai to anywhere but Samui!)
The booking agent at netflights told me we'd be right through with luggage but I phoned BA to confirm and they told me I'd need to collect bags and check in again with Thai. Even though the booking agent assured me it was one booking or PNR BA assured me this was not the case. I had to pay more and fly a bit earlier to London as I couldn't take the risk of being late for the long haul.
I don't mean to worry you but do double check. I think you will be ok as I'm sure KLM & Malaysian do code share but for your own peace of mind and knowing everything is in hand.
They do codeshare, but unless the OP actually posts flight numbers, we can only use a best guess... the 15.50 arrival is their codeshare.0 -

The OP is right to check with the airline(s) - they will have all of the relevant interlining information/arrangements.0 -

That goes without saying, but if the OP is asking for advice here, the most accurate advice can only be given if the OP supplies the relevant details. Otherwise we would always refer people to the relevant companies involved.
Happily some here often have knowledge beyond what is given by the average call centre.
An example being that when I wanted to check luggage in during a stopover. One advisor said no for up to half an hour until I mentioned a few facts and then they said yes.
So if the OP posts the relevant info, he has more than just the word of call centre staff on which to depend....dicky0 -

What are the flight numbers? Let me take a look. I don't need to see the exact dates. Though the month might be helpful.
Apologies for delay; life got in the way.
Outward KL1072, MH0019 & MH5800
Return MH5801 MH0016 & KL1081
All flights next January.0
