Signed up with Tesco in Aug. new phone with 4g , internet, phone and text.
Could not receive internet when moved away from my lap top! Wanted to sit in garden and use internet. Contacted Tesco several times wondered what I was doing wrong! Tesco checked for transmitters. Transmitter at golf club you will be getting internet from there. I've not see a transmitter there, I told them! "It's there"!

Two months on, thought I had better get help with internet on mobile, wouldn't work away from lap top! Tesco checked and said golf club only 2g won't get internet from there - perhaps you will get it from along the A12 near Capel, they are repairing that transmitter from 19th Oct to 21st Oct. But, I have not had internet, except when next to lap top since I got the phone! We don't know how long the transmitter has not been working fully! Phone back when repair are finished after 21st Oct.

I'm 71 and manage quite well with the computers I have had. Live in a rural spot surrounded by trees, know mob. phones are poor at receiving signal and mentioned to Tesco when I changed over to them.

Sure I have been miss sold again. Had the same with Vodafone when they insisted I change from my rolling contract for just phone and text to a more expensive contract with internet. Never could get internet i was sold, know why now! Had a right barney with them, got my phone in 1996 for emergency only, on a rolling contract. Live alone out in the sticks could have an accident, motor break down or animals get sick. Vodafone said they had stopped the rolling contracts! I had been advised not to leave the contract and it would stay at £5.50!

Sorry 2 issues, paid for service i can't get and taken off a rolling contract against my wishes and miss sold a new contract that included internet that was not available where I live - didn't know it thought it was due to my lack of how to!

Any one had same experience, advice please! Going to Trading Standards!

You need to test at location with PAYG sim to find a network that has signal .

How would tesco know the signal strength for every location in the UK ??
Presumption would be that the phone and data work in other areas .

I am not on PAYG. Tesco uses O2, on O2 website they have a map that will show your 2G, 3G and 4G network coverage - which includes call and mobile internet reception – as well as your nearest O2 Wifi hotspots. Easy to find out check their Network Coverage web site!

Web site is only a rough guide see multiple identical posts .
Thats why recommend a PAYG sim to test network coverage first .

If Tesco admit that there is only 2g signal in you location and that they were wrong when you contacted them first time, demand the contract to be cancelled without fees. If the contract included the phone you'll have to return it.

That said, it's not clear what the laptop has to do with this. Is it the wifi router?

Coverage maps are less than useless. It's the coverage when the map was produced. Things get built that block the signal (houses, block of flats, offices etc). The maps are rarely updated...

You can get internet on 2G, but it won't be very fast.
3G and 4G are more viable.

It will be very slow, next to useless for a smartphone.

Kind of mobile have you got ? Three or EEcurrently have somw of the best coverage, o2 just scraped by on 3G coverage and failing their licence obligations.

Do you have internet at home (hope your not loading MSE on 2G) ?

I would email Tesco a complaint tommorrow requesting collection/return of handset and cancellation as others have said.

They said the 21st, you patiently waited, and they broke the contract by stating 21st you would have the required coverage when you complained firstly in the outset.
SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe ;)
