• There is no way I'd put a boiler in the loft & certainly NOT a WB

I, too, am at a loss to know why people request their boilers to be installed in their loft spaces. It is a recipe for disaster yet people choose to do it.

With regards WB I, too, have my concerns and grouses with the company, but here I would bow down to southcoastrgi and their superior knowledge - boilers are not my specialism.

I understand its to keep loft nice and warm for bee’s wasps and rodents etc in those cold winter months.....

Boiler choice many RGI’s do alot of research as to which firms giving away most free T shirts, Trousers, Courses etc WB win that one hands down.... Its all very thought out and scientific...
• Thanks for the replies!

Have had second thoughts about the loft after your comments and reading more about it, am now trying to find somewhere else to locate it out of the bedroom so we can fit another bed in there, also not keen on having it in a bedroom anyway. The kitchen would be the most obvious place but this is at the other side of the house from where the boiler is at the moment and previous owner has very kindly boxed in any pipes that were showing :(
As Worcester Bosch don't seem to be liked either, could you let me know what boiler you would recommend? Do not want a combi!!

Thanks.
• One reason I would never put a WB in the loft is that they don't have a low water pressure switch (the only boiler make that doesn't) so will continue to work with no water in them, the first you will know is when you have no hot water or heating & by then it's prob too late to save it & that's not covered under the warentee either as its user error, think of a pan on the hob with no water in it before long it will have a big hole in it

• Where is your hot water cylinder can the boiler not go in that cupboard above it ?
System or open vented boilers aren't that big

• At the moment they are both in the smallest third bedroom, boiler on outside wall within a makeshift wardrobe with sliding doors, and the boiler is in another cupboard next to it , so they are taking up entire side of wall and we need the space to put another bed in.

Not sure if we move the water cylinder into the corner whether there is enough height to put the boiler above as we have a sloping ceiling!
Will have a look when I get home as I'm away at the moment.

Can you recommend a boiler that now won't be going into a loft? House is 3 bed semi, 1930's, 2 bathrooms ( no idea why) both with showers but only one bath, kitchen, no dishwasher, with mainly 2 adults living there apart from when we have family to stay!

Thanks again

Boilers do just fine in lofts. Make sure your pipes are insulated and that you don't have rodents living up there. There's absolutely no reason why a boiler can't be fitted in loft or a even a garage. It makes perfect sense if you trying to hold onto space in the house.

As for Worcester Bosch, Which magazine speak well of them and I certainly can't fault the last 3 boilers I've had in my last 3 houses. They've performed flawlessly for us. Just be sure it's serviced regularly.

Take your time researching your boiler yourself rather than having it picked by the fitter. Avoid any nasty cheap DIY store ones and pick your fitter wisely, there's too many out there that are lazy and will fit it badly and fail to commission it properly which is where your problems will begin. Get your system flushed properly before the new boilers fitted. If it isn't then it may invalidate the warranty on the new boiler and fit a decent filter

For what it's worth I have visited many Worcester Bosch boilers that are 15yrs+ and the boiler still has all the parts available.

For a boiler to be fitted in the loft it needs to be boarded from the hatch to the boiler, fixed light, a loft ladder installed, not to mention that the boilers inbuilt frost stat will keep turning the boiler on right through the winter to protect itself even when the time clock says it should be off wasting gas, very mse, plus the issue I've already said about, which mag reviews on WB mean jack, because they ask WB installers not to mention the £10k they get from them
