For a banger like you say it would certainly be less of an issue, if the car was a good un.
I agree this is a deal to avoid.0 -
I asked him why he insures it this way and he said he has a fleet of about 25 small cars on lease. His insurance covers up to 30 cars (or unlimited number perhaps) at one fixed fee, provided none of them are valued at over £15k or something. This way he and his girlfriend can own three cars privately without any extra cost. He had a bently continental and audi tt and his partner a mercedes.
But I suspect the log book of the TT I'm buying off him is wrong because the history doesn't check with what I got from Audi. I don't know why that would be because the seller could have just did what I did: call Audi, get a copy of the history, include it with the car for sale! Seems stupid..?0 -
You ARE buying off him? Or are THINKING of buying off him?0

I'm in a process. I've seen the car twice now and gone for a test drive once. It's a lovely spec at a good price. I've been looking for almost 8 months and this one has been one of the ones that stuck out because it's loaded with options I would have paid more for. Visually it is in good condition and the half hour test drive was fairly positive. The RAC Car Passport gives it the green light, but my own checks throw up inconsistencies so that's why I'm on the internet doing all the detective work.0

Well he says it's his private car, and I've seen the receipt showing me the dealer he bought it from 2 years ago. However he (and his partner I guess, who's name appears on the receipt and V5) own a car leasing company (Cross Connex Ltd) and they add their own private cars to the company car insurance policy (they have 3 between them).
If it is indeed not considered a private sale is there any major problems with that for me?
If the receipt is in his partner's name then - in the absence of any evidence to the contrary - she is the owner, not the company, and not the guy who's selling it.
The insurance is a red herring.0 -
The V5 registered keeper is given as the Ltd company and there is an address in London.
On the receipt for the car dating back to Dec 2013 when this current owner bought it, this same address is present as the buyer address, and instead of the company name it gives the actual name of the woman (i presume to be his girlfriend). When I do a Companies House search on the company her name appears as a director.0
