  • Sounds like a walk away and keep looking situation to me, if there's some convoluted stuff like this going on, why wouldn't the seller just be upfront about it? Nothing to hide, nothing to fear....

I probably will, I've uncovered some very confusing milage and service discrepancies so just can't justify it. Money and time wasted!
  • How can it be a private sale if a company is selling it.

Well he says it's his private car, and I've seen the receipt showing me the dealer he bought it from 2 years ago. However he (and his partner I guess, who's name appears on the receipt and V5) own a car leasing company and they add their own private cars to the company car insurance policy (they have 3 between them).

If it is indeed not considered a private sale is there any major problems with that for me?

So they have been doing some sort of fronting, insuring their private cars as company use for cheap insurance.

I wouldn't necessarily let that put me off, my current car belonged to a car body shop garage when I bought it. Seller said it was used for dropping customers off and as a courtesy car, yet it was registered to the business owner's name at his private address. Not to the business or business premises.

If the car is on the Company Insurance and is registered to the Company and the Invoice was made out to the Director then the car belongs to the Company.

The boyfriend is merely the user of the vehicle.

If they are a car leasing company then I would personally consider it a trade sale, as in being sold by a trader.

If you think you have found mileage and service discrepancies then clearly that is why they are trying to sell it privately.

If you are looking for an Audi there are plenty of fish in the sea and plenty with cast iron histories.

I wouldn't say that company car insurance will be cheaper.

But it will be paid for from the companies turnover and so is a benefit they are obtained without paying tax I suspect.

Again not unusual but not the kind of person Inwould want to buy a car from especially as they are trying to sell privately.

They are in the motor trade though.

    I wouldn't buy from them either if it's over a few £k.

In my case it was just a £400 banger.
