Late axa insurance payment - has it had an impact on my credit score!?

Hi all,
A few weeks ago I cancelled my car insurance with Axa. They mentioned I would have to pay a cancellation fee (around £40) for cancelling my policy early which I paid. I thought that was then the end of it.
On Friday I received an answerphone message from Axa asking me to ring them. I assumed it was for some sort of survey/feedback so didn't bother. However i have just received a letter from them, a 'debt recovery action' letter to be exact stating I owe them £25.72!!!!
I'm not disputing that I owe them this amount of money, but I assumed they could take it from my direct debit arrangement and didn't think I would need to contact them to make a payment myself.
The letter states they will allow me a further 7 days from the date of the letter (19th Oct) to contact them or else a debt recovery agent will become involved. Of course I phoned them back ASAP this evening (20th Oct) and paid off the £25.72.
Although i've now paid it back, I am now worried this will have a poor impact on my credit rating!? Will this act as a default or something? Or will this be an official 'late payment'? Sorry I have little knowledge of these things! I did ask the woman on the phone and she said that Axa don't pass any info to banks so I should be OK, but mentioned something about the banks sometimes contacting them..? I mean I paid it before the debt recovery people became involved so I should be ok right?

Do you check your credit report? I'm pretty sure AXA car insurance don't report to credit reference agencies even if you pay your insurance monthly (mine never have anyway).
Check your report. I don't think you should be worried.0 -
