Cash deposit at post office gone missing, no one accepting responsibility

Anybody had problems with this service before? On 10th Oct I payed in £450 cash and £30 in cheques at my local post office, I bank with Santander and according to website and all ive read the cash should appear immediatly, but its now 20th and still nothing, I have a receipt to prove the cash deposit (no receipt for cheques as these are just posted). I checked the receipt and the correct account number was entered.

Post office claim theres no error at their end, must be bank. Bank claims they havnt seen the money so they cant trace it, must be an error at post office end. Its currently under investigation by the bank, but thats already 3 days and no word......

Any ideas???

Thanks in advance

The receipt was from the PO, so it's their responsibility to investigate and sort out everything instead of washing their hands.
  • Whatever you do, don't give up that receipt. If they ask for it, only send a photocopy or scan.

I am not saying that you are completely wrong but at Lloyds you go into a branch with a receipt and they fax copies of it to the department who deal with this, and they get the money from the post office for you. They will credit your account within 24 hours.

    Can't comment about Santander.

Did you deposit the cash with your card or a payin slip?
If it was the former, then it would arrive instantly

That's useful for paying into a bank without a branch in your town. Unless there's a charge....

Surely it's only useful if it's reliable?

Indeed! I've used this free facility at the Post Office to pay cash into my Santander account, I think for most banks it is available. The cashier takes your card, enters the amount which then shows on the card terminal, you press "ok" and it's in your account, cashier returns your card and the receipt. They will have to sort out what went wrong in this instance. It's curious that the OP's cheque deposit, a separate process, also did not enter their account.

I don't think there was any problem with the cheque deposit.

That could be. Reading OP again, it's not clear.

When the card is used, the transaction is processed via LINK.
