in Credit cards
My son has been trying for some days to access the Vanquis site to apply for a card, where he wants to try improve his credit history.
But he cannot access Vanquis.co.uk, as the site cannot be found. This applies whether he has his firewall on or off.
Is there a problem with this site or is the address incorrect.

Hi I was on there on Sunday and it was working fine then, maybe try typing Vanquis into google and go through the link. That's how I did it anyway and it seemed to work, I have cookies disabled and a firewall......
Got the reply from them yesterday too.....
MelxUnless someone like you cares a whole awful lot,
Nothing is going to get better. It's not.0 -
Well we've tried again and disabling the firewall/cookies etc.
Still no joy, whether using any of the links on Google or not.0 -

Try 83.137.132.36 in your IE - That's the ip address of Vanquis.
If not, Are you able to ping the website?
Click start - Run - type CMD and hit enter and then type ping 83.137.132.36.
It will reply four times if you are able to access it.0 -

Tried it via address - nothing
Tried it via ping - OK no probs all 4 returned.
The blue scale at the bottom on the task bar moves over very slowly then stops after a few seconds and then after 15/20 secs, it say it "cannot open this page". Again firewall etc has been turned off, still nothing.
would something on the PC (host??) be blocking access to this site.??0 -
Try this link.
I went on their site after disabling scripts (Javascript) and it still works. Maybe the HOSTS file is a problem. Copy the contents of this file into here.Windows 95/98/Me c:\windows\hosts Windows NT/2000/XP Pro c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\hosts Windows XP Home c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
Double-click the file, and choose notepad to view it (from the list)."Do not spoil what you have by desiring what you have not; but remember that what you now have was once among the things you only hoped for."

I've been to the Host holding file and there are some 12 files. Some are Host backup files, Host, Host ics, Imhost sam, Host msn, Protocol, Services and Networks.
thxs again
Which do you want me to copy ??0 -
Just 'HOSTS' is fine. Remember, double-click and select to open in Notepad."Do not spoil what you have by desiring what you have not; but remember that what you now have was once among the things you only hoped for."

Host File:
Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host
# Start of entries inserted by Spybot - Search & Destroy
# End of entries inserted by Spybot - Search & Destroy
End of Host file. thxs0 -
No the HOSTS file is not a problem.
How strange.
Who's your ISP (Internet Service Provider)?
This is going to sound extreme, but you could download a free web broswer. It's called Firefox and I'm using it now.
Once you've converted you'll never look at Internet Explorer in the same light again."Do not spoil what you have by desiring what you have not; but remember that what you now have was once among the things you only hoped for."

Well Karl,
I'm sorry to say that he downloaded 'firefox' and its made no difference in him trying to access 'Vanquis'.
Our ISP is 'Eclipse'.
