Zero hour contract benefits?

Evening,

My husband and I have just seperated and he has moved out. I am working around 16-20 hours per week and not claiming any benefits at all. I have 2 children aged 15 and 13. I've been reading up on things but not got very far so am I entitled to the following?

Tax credits
Housing benefit
Council tax help
Income support

I am on a zero hour contract but I never work any more than 20 hours per week. Will the zero hour contract go against me? I have tried my best to go full time but to no avail! Can anyone please advise me?

Income support is for those with children under 5, with noises being made about it going down to 3. It was 16 at one point, but that was over a decade ago.
    Both WTC/HB/CTS are possible.
Maintainance of course too, assuming they are your ex-husbands children.

Yes he will pay maintenance. He adores his kids but we just needed to call it a day :( I'm clueless when it comes to this stuff. How do I find out if I am entitled to any of them and how much I would receive? Sorry for all the questions. I read somewhere I won't get anything due to the zero hour contract? Is this true? Thank you.

    Hi,

I can't remember where I read it. I could have misread it. Thank you.

The table below shows how your tax credit award varies over the year. If your circumstances change during the tax year (6th April 2015 – 5th April 2016) so will the amount of tax credits you are entitled to.
Job 1 start date - End of tax year
    Period:06/04/2015-05/04/2016 yearly £ weekly £
Initial Tax Credit award for period: £10,083.30 £193.91
    Working Tax Credit: £3,974.76 £76.44
    Child Tax Credit: £6,108.54 £117.47

Final Tax Credit award for period: £10,083.30 £193.91
    Working Tax Credit: £3,974.76 £76.44
Child Tax Credit award: £6,108.54 £117.47

This can't be right? I did that calculator thing and it showed this was what I am entitled to?

    Hi me again,

This is what the final result showed for me. I don't really understand the housing and council tax part of it :(
I already get the child benefit on a Tuesday.

What information did you put in relating to working hours, income for last year and income for this year?

I put in my wages from my p60 from April which says £5700. I just put in 18 hours because I work between 16 and 20 a week.

Then yes the tax credit amount would be about right.

It will go down next year though due to budget cuts.

Ok seems high to me! Can you make sense out of the housing and council tax bit?

Do I pay £60.31 rent per week and the £13.02 council tax per week?

I think I understand now. I get £60.31 towards my rent and then I pay £13.02 council tax per week. Is that right? My zero hour contract definitely won't affect me?

When I was on a zero hours contract and receiving housing benefit/council tax benefit- i had to take a copy of my wage slip to the council each month so they could work out that months benefit, as my wages were variable.
You wont get housing benefit if you are paying a mortgage, it is just for renting.

Whereas the tax credits just used the end of year amount.
