All I and we can do is wish ill on them:(. I did think about ringing the police (to report the theft) - but, even if they came, there's little chance of them finding the culprits or anyone ever being caught sadly.:p

Really sorry this happened to you Savvy :(

Might be worth reporting though. Someone in your area might have CCTV. Some people on my local fb pages, people seem to have great success doing this. And even the fact that its reported on a fb group might make whoever did this put the item back, especially if they know you are checking local CCTV cameras ;)
  • Afternoon,
I don't do many v m shops so I have a question please, will the alpens compare today as they did on Saturday?
    Thanking you.

There's no CCTV sadly. If there is, it's probably one of the neighbours who has the CCTV:(.

I'm not bothered - I've learned from the past, sadly sometimes when you report things it only makes matters worse:(.

Actually I remember this from a few years ago. My father actually this happened to. His car got hit by another outside his home. The police wanted all his driving documents and MOT:mad:. In almost seeming priority above ever wanting those of the driver that hit. I have full documents and MOT. As ever though it would be disruptive and a beggar - time-consuming - retrieving them all out. It's more than it's worth. It may not happen if I report it, but sometimes (not intentionally to be like this) they turn on the victim and require them to do things.

It's a residential street. I don't know of any CCTV, so I very very much doubt it.

Yes. S10CT. (And typical that they want to do it with me, when I try a shortest post, the system won't let me as it's too short! So, now it has me going on about all that and lengthening my post even more:rotfl:.)

Savvy...If I were you I would not do the morries run today...its going to get dark soon and driving without a mirror when you know its not there might be difficult/awkward.

With regards to the unroadworthy aspect its similar to the situation that you are allowed to drive a car without an MOT....but only to the test centre for a pre booked appointment for the mot....
In the same way if you are indeed stopped in your car without a functioning mirror you are driving the vehicle to the garage for repair....I am assuming you will drive it on wednesday to get it fixed

Its most unlikely that the police will knock on your door regarding your mirror even though you are parked onstreet....and if they do a simple explaination that you will be taking it to be fixed on wednesday will suffice and lead them on their way.

Although I must say I do agree with others who suggest you report it as damage to the police...there may have been others targeted in the area....do you have a neighbourhood section that you could contact....all too often minor damage is not reported but sometimes it helps to build a bigger picture of the area and does aid the police when monitoring your area as a whole.

I currently have an ongoing dealing with the local police/neighbourhood watch/city council concerning a local issue and its quite eye opening about the number of "petty crimes" that happen without report.

I don't know what to do. Should I go out or should I stop here now? Eventually, soon, the decision will be made for me. If I procrastinate and stay, then eventually I'll end up just staying. It's nearly three o'clock - even if I go now (and especially more when having to drive even more carefully) I'm going to hit rush hour on the way back. So, it's not much point. I won't bother!

    Exactly.

Still not sure about reporting it though - not just for the potential reasons I've already mentioned - greater inconvenience to me - sometimes leaving a wasp's nest undisturbed is a better way of dealing with the wasps - I tend to poke into things and it always ends up upsetting the matter and making it far worse:( - so, I'm not prodding with my stick this time, also if I report it, it will only draw attention to the fact that my part mirror-less car is outside my house on the road.

To return to the outset of your post (first paragraph), yes you're absolutely right, rationally I am not going to be so stupid. Fortunately I have some sense.

I might wait two days and then report it when it's all been fixed. I'll get the 'why didn't you report earlier?', but at least there's absolutely no evidence left of any mirror-less car on any road at that stage.

I know, perhaps what I've said above is a little stupid:rotfl:, but, anyway, I'm not going to care (purely as a coping mechanism on my own part) and, to be honest with you about the less significant Morries visiting, I was thinking either I'd do Monday and Wednesday this week or I'd just do the Wednesday anyway. I thought last night - I could not bother with the Monday - why am I bothering with Monday as it only means I'll "have" to go twice in the week rather than once. (Of course, I don't have to go at all, which is why the quotes.) So why make it "having" to go twice, when I could do just once, to cover the most part of the week? (Rhetorical of course.)

It's a new month - I'll sort my bank account movements out. I'm not the only one who has been in the situation of having a car mirror stolen sadly.

Savvy....nasty thing someone has done.....but yes you can drive without a mirror,we had a similar thing happen to us some years ago and actually queried it with the local police station....

Its inconsiderate and an expense you dont deserve but there should be no problem with driving your car to the garage to get it fixed...apart from the obvious lack of vision that you will have with the mirror not being there!

I deal with lack of vision all the time. Let me again put in an unusual way of looking at things. I don't have any vision of all but the very most obvious body language so, as I cope with lack of vision as a normal part of my entire life, I will be able to cope with the lack of vision from no mirror for the fairly short drive to the repair.
