Premium bonds/Postcode lottery/Windfall Bonds/Halifax prize draw - Who has won?

Hi all,

I have the maximum amount of premium bonds invested - still not won anything over £125, have had maximum amount invested since 2008. Does anybody know anybody that has won anything over £1000?

I have also had £5k invested in Halifax prize savers draw - and still nothing through.

I also stuck in 10k in the windfalls prize draw, still nothing.

I also do Peoples postcode lottery - £10 per month and also get excited to do lottery when it's a big roll over.

Is there anybody out there like me? Always hoping to win, i actually feel i will.
But just get disheartened now thinking i play all these things to win, but it's not quite happening. Shall i just go out and buy a property for 70k and stick it on rent & get £450-£550 in rent instead?

What does everybody think?

Why would you jump from one thing where you have access your money to something where it is illiquid and potentially at risk?

Why not look into investments, maybe using a S&S ISA if you want to have some risk and have something you can monitor for returns.

Of course there are people out there like you; lots and lots of them.

But not many in here, because this forum is about saving and investing, not gambling.

I win 10 months out of 12 on Premium Bonds .... I have won £1,000 once and £500 another. Generally it's multiples of £25 .... which is OK as long as IR's remain so low.

Of course, pump everything you have into property - in that you cannot lose .... certainly not over the long term.

I'd disagree there - maybe VERY long term but house wrecked by a tenant who hasn't paid rent for a long time before eviction would make a very big dent in returns before you see your capital back.

Ahh yes, that fabled 0% risk investment!

OP, with that amount of cash, get an IFA or do some serious research into investing it. You can beat IR rates with a little bit of nous.

So that sounds like you have about £65,000 at the moment and add in approx £20 per month on the lotteries.

With your current strategy I reckon over the next 40 years you could reasonably expect to end up with about £100,000 and a fluttery feeling in your tummy a couple of times per month..

On the other hand if you chose to invest in a diversified set of equities giving a 7% annual return you could reasonably expect to end up with £1,000,000 in 40 years. Probably without the fluttery tummy thing though. How much is that worth?

You were telling us all you'd won one of the major prizes a couple of years ago :rotfl:

Yes, somebody will know someone that has won over £1,000.
  • I have, all in all about 100k saved up. Mostly in premium bonds, ISA has another whack, top paying current account, some shares.

Trying to get rental property paid of asap as well.
Think i am doing ok, will look into other investments as well.

Gold/shares was a good bet, but property is the only thing at the moment, PB i'm not sure. My IFA, said you will never win even with the maximum amount, so far he is right.
