Monday 19th October - What small DFW things will you do today?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free!

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending! :money:

  • Good morning everyone :D
    Hope nobody minds me starting us off again. I feel a bit like I've taken over the thread. :o I hope it's just that the rest of you are lucky enough to be sleeping rather than busy.
    Well, the end is in sight for this half term - just one week to go. I've deliberately not made many plans for the half term because 1. I think I'm going to have to go into work at least for a couple of hours to catch up on marking, 2. I've got no money and 3. I desperately need some R&R for a few days.
    Here's today's list:
    :D check banking
    :D load of washing
    :D give dh a list of jobs to do while I am out today
    :D nsd
    :D go to my friend's exercise class
    :D go to both kids parents evening
    :D mark a set of books
    :D full day of teaching
    :D try not to stress
    :D all meals from stores pre prepared
    Have a good day everyone.

    Morning ccl thanks for starting the thread - I am totally psyched that you've been starting the thread so no worries here! I'm always up at the crack of dawn (sorry Dawn that sounds weird :rotfl:) and waiting for the thread as I'm lazy! Hope you have a super efficient day today x

    Bob good news about the clinic yesterday :T

    Small things for today:

    * [STRIKE]an hour in the garden chopping up the shrubs I cut/dug up yesterday so I can get them in the garden bin/a bag to go to the tip[/STRIKE]
    * all meals from stores
    *[STRIKE] get a couple of fairy cakes out of the freezer for dgd during the day[/STRIKE]
    [STRIKE]* checked cc to see if it's been issued and if I can go shopping today. It hasn't so the creativity of using up stocks continues :p (quinoa, rice & seabass tomorrow....)[/STRIKE]
    * was thinking of going to a play group today but have decided to stay home and have a garden day. Will get a bowl of water, some jugs and other water suitable equipment and let dgd play with that while I'm in the garden ;). Probably will walk down to the park this afternoon as long as it's not raining
    * read up on ms assignments & get oh to print off paperwork
    * look through job vacancies I've booked marked and decide which ones I want to apply for and work out when I need to start them. Might get a chance to start one if dgd has a nap
    * photo and list some bits on fleabay this evening
    * try to squeeze in some exercise of some sort....
    * flylady the bathroom

    Ok think that's all I need to do. Have a great day everyone x

    Hello Monday MSE-ers,
    Couldn't seem to get myself going this morning, but giving myself a verbal kick up the bum seemed to do the trick & I'm managing to achieve quite a few money-saving bits on my list:
    *Did laundry overnight on cheap tariff. All drying outside on the whirlygig. Washer loaded for same again tonight.
    *Made dough for tonight's pizza & some bread rolls (now proving, will be shaping it after I've signed out).
    *Did 1 hour of gardening. I often used to do this, but was inspired by DNMS's plans to spend an hour or so on the garden each day. Took the kitchen timer out with me. What a lot it's possible to do in just 1 hour! I weeded the lettuce bed & cut some leaves for a salad tonight, emptied out 3 troughs & stored them away in the shed, moved 2 troughs of frilly lettuce into the greenhouse to extend the season a bit, watered seeds & stuff the greenhouse, then watered the Christmas tree, cut a handful of tiny courgettes (unlikely to get bigger now the nights are cold) to slice up & add to tonight's pizza topping & gathered up another 5lbs of pears. Was just taking my muddy boots off to go & put the kettle on when the timer pinged to say that was my hour! Shall defo be doing that again!
    *New insurance policy docs arrived so cancelled the dd on old policy (Provider was supposed to have done this, but hadn't, so glad I looked).
    *Did a One-poll survey. I need every one I can get now, as am only 50p away from cash-in.
    *Did another survey for the online brand community I'm on at the moment, as have done quite well with vouchers for this over the past year.
    *Ordered nephew's Christmas present from John Lewis on Click & Collect. This service now charged at £2 for orders under £50. Not too bothered, as visiting John Lewis in person is a 35-mile round trip & eye-watering city-centre parking. Also, only 3 left in stock, so just wanted to get one for him.
    *Bake cake (fundraising) for meeting I'm at tonight. If everything's in stock, it does work out a cheaper option than going out & buying a bottle or similar.
    *Possibly bake some pear & lemon muffins for freezer. Useful for packed lunches as well as popping in handbag to eat with a coffee instead of buying coffees AND cakes.
    *Did a tiny budget update.
    *Make tomorrow's packed lunch & check train times for getting mr f to train station.
    *Make list of stuff I need to do in town tomorrow while I have wheels. Whooo-hooo! Defo only want to be paying 1 lot of parking, so need a list.
    Hopefully a bit of leisure time between finishing today's baking & going out tonight. Hope everyone's getting off to a good start this week. If not, file today under 'Over & done with' & re-start your week tomorrow.
    Cheers,
    f x

    Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!

    :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

    Thanks for the start CCL :)

    Baby GD was christened yesterday, which was lovely but entailed lots of chores for me, so a slow start today :o

    So far I have:
    Been to sales unit to tidy up / restock. Sold an item immediately so that was good :)

    Not spent anything

    Finished up meusli 'dust' for breakfast, various leftovers for lunch

    And that is it :o

    Still to do:
    Tidy up :eek:
    Unload car and put away the sales items I bought back from the shop
    I hour in the garden (like Foxgloves, I am pinching this idea from DNMS)
    Walk and groom pup
    Pile of mending that I STILL haven't done :(
    Leftover ham from yesterday for supper :)
    Sort out OH's truck insurance, making sure they deduct the cost of the optional extras that they seem to have included in the renewal correspondence :mad:
    Check banks
    Measure pup for a coat for the cold weather, assuming I can keep him still for long enough :rotfl:
    Check prices of very small dog coats online

    Well, it doesn't seem a lot, but I will be happy if I get it all done!
    Hope you are all having a good day :)

    Hello,

    Oh my gosh. 10.5 hours N.I.G.H.T.S.H.I.F.T! That was ok but pretty full on! :eek:

    Then I came home and I was very disciplined and and went immediately to bed. No tv, no DVDs. Then I tossed and turned for two hours and then the builders hammering started next door which they continued to do all day. :( Got a grand total of three hours sleep.

    So what have I done that's DFW?

    Debt-Free Nillionaire Month 5:

    * Spent nothing.

    * Brought home crisps uneaten from packed lunch. Will have another day.

    * Didn't listen to the radio in bed. Electricity saving.

    * Did the SIM shuffle.

    Have a good evening everyone.
