How do we do this please??

It just seems hugely anchronistic that in this day and age VED is only available in whole months. Like I said above if I move house mid month I don't have to pay full months council tax on both properties.
My council tax was not pro rated for the month when I moved between councils. I had to pay full months for both.0 -
I don't drive my car everyday, can I claim a refund of insurance and tax for the days I don't drive?0

Do you place insurance on hold when you do that to avoid cancellation charges?0 -
I thought this was a site that championed saving money so I was just checking if there was a way to do this.
You still won't convince me that I'm not being charged twice for the same thing.
The question about insurance doesn't really apply as it will be an entirely different type of vehicle so a different insurer.
Anyway I think we'll leave it at that, I'll just pay and get on with it!
The most cost effective way to sell your car will be the last day of the month.
The most cost effective way to buy your car will be the first day of the month.
Any other time and you will incur some loss, be it 1 or 20 days, depending on the day you buy/sell/swop your car. How much of a loss will depend on the VED banding, but it will be never more than 30 days worth of VED.
You can also decide how much you will lose by arranging the day you buy/sell/swop your car so its up to you really.
Whether you consider the amount of the loss is worth thinking about in the annual cost of owning a car as it may be a less than £0.05 per day (each car) or if you drive a highest VED bracket car £1.38 per day (each car). So at very worse if you plan on swopping your Ferrari for another Ferrari on the 2nd day of the month you will lose a grand total of £82.80. Assuming your Ferrari is worth £40,000 upwards, another £82.80 is neither here and nor there.
Likewise if your swopping your 107 for another 107 then the total you can lose is £3.00 for the pair.
Cost of insurance is relevant as the total cost to change vehicles should be considered before changing.
I am afraid you have no choice but to pay up, unless you leave it another week before you swop cars.
Good luck with the new car.0
