Thoughts on Coconut oil ?

I buy mine at Holland and Barrett when it's on offer and it's 100% pure organic.
I use it to moisturise, use it in stir frys and clean my teeth with it.
There is a very useful site 101 uses for coconut oil.0 -
What are your thoughts on Coconut oil ?
I've heard a few good things about using it, but don't really know much about it.
It's an OK emollient (I find paraffin based products better though).
However it is quite greasy, comedogenic and does not sink into the skin well. A very similar texture to baby oil really.0 -

I use it as a night moisturiser sometimes. However, I lightly exfoliate with a cellouse sponge, cleanse with witch hazel and then apply the oil to the skin. It works wonders for me and it doesn't give the sensation of burning on the skin like I get with other moisturisers.0

I am a huge fan of coconut oil - it's probably one of the most diverse products whether raw oil or in a product. I like to make hair masks using coconut oil once every two weeks, and the results are just amazing!0

Used it for years. For my hair I like applying some before washing and a tiny amount before swimming. Also great on skin. I sometimes stick a tablespoon full in a warm bath and love it's moisturising affect. I use the Biona branded stuff having tried lots of others.0

I have a kind of Daily Mail filter in place, not that they're necessarily wrong just that they'll have an article proving the opposite come along in a week or two just to keep you unhinged !0

Unrefined, organic Virgin coconut oil is NOT unhealthy to cook with. Quite the reverse actually. And despite being a saturated fat (which many wrongly believe is bad for you) it actually contains primarily medium chain triglycerides which are metabolised differently. They are directly transported to the liver and converted to energy whereas other types of fat containing short and long chain triglycerides are stored in the body as fat cells.0 -
I'm on the autoimmune protocol so use coconut oil for quite a lot of things - sometimes baking in place of butter/margarine, but mostly beauty. I cleanse my skin with coconut oil, warm water and a cleansing cloth, moisturise when needed, use it on my lips, cuticles, hands, feet, and as a body moisturiser. Ive been using it to oil pull - I know someone already said it has been proven to do nothing but it has reduced the swelling I usually have in my gums and my dentist has commented that it seems to be helping so I'm going to keep doing it. Mine is 100% organic cold pressed, my skin is a lot less red and much softer and clearer. You do have to make extra effort to ensure you remove it all, but I haven't had any issues with blocked pores/blackheads"I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better." Paul Theroux0
