I thought the smoking point, where the oil starts to break down was the same between Olive oil and Coconut oil.

I'm not a fan of it personally. Too expensive.
Olive oil all the way for me.

  • You swish a tablespoon around for several minutes then spit it out : this removes a lot of bacteria. I do this when I wake up. The dentist told me for the first time ever that I was looking pink and healthy inside.

I'm afraid there is absolutely no evidence to say swishing coconut oil improves gum health, "detoxifies" gums or makes any difference to oral health . https://www.sciencebasedmedicine.org/oil-pulling-your-leg/

Indeed one company has been censured by the ASA for claiming coconut oil will whiten teeth http://www.cosmeticsbusiness.com/news/article_page/ASA_upholds_complaint_against_CocoWhite_website/110774
  • I've used it on my hair for years, pre-wash treatment, coat the hair and leave it for a few hours then wash out (wash 2 or 3 times), and make body scrub with oil sugar and essential oils.

I've only just tried cooking with it, not sure about this, coconut and omelet does not work, but fried sweet potato was good.

I haven't tried baking yet, but read that if using coconut oil you reduce the fat by 1/4 and the sugar by 1/3, so this would make the whole thing a but more healthy.......sort off ........ it's still cake after all.
  • You say that it doesn't work for omelet which I must say surprises me a lot. I have fried eggs in coconut oil and they came out very well. Maybe it depends on the coconut oil because at the time I was largely using a refined coconut oil which has less taste. I wished I had used a more regular organic/virgin oil as the taste and smell appeals to me a lot. In fact I just love coconut full stop. Dessicated, whole coconut, oil, it all appeals to me.

Does anybody have any experience of Costco's Coconut Oil? We've been using KTC which we buy in Tesco, but it doesn't actually smell or taste of coconut. Saw coconut oil on sale in Costco, but the pack is two large jars. Didn't want to buy it if it too doesn't smell/taste of coconut.

    We use it for cooking.

  • I use KTC on my hands and feet and for cleaning my teeth much of the time, and organic cold-pressed Tiana for everything else. The latter tastes lovely.

  • I've been using it on my hair after I've washed it for at least 6 months now, you have to be careful not to use too much to make it greasy BUT my hair has elasticity it never had before and it is way cheaper than any other hair serums.

I've a Superdrug pot of it for about £3.
I use it as an occasional rich moisturiser on my face and on hands in the cold weather sometimes instead of hand cream.
you can also use it to remove make up but I find that rather fiddly.

ive been using it as a beauty product for a little while and it seems to do quite well for me.
i use it to cleanse and moisturise my skin.
i only pay a pound in savers for a tub that can be used in cooking and skin and has no chemicals.
