Cancelling Sky, how to access Freeview

So my wife and I have had enough and have decided it's time to cancel our Sky subscription and save some serious £££.

Our TV is a smart TV, so it is connected to the Wifi for those features, but it also has built in freeview. Our house has an aerial on the roof, but i have no idea if the cable is any good, or where the wall point is for it, so i was gonna look to buy an inside aerial to plug into the TV. Can anyone recommend one to buy so we can get the basic freeview channels, or would it be a better idea to spend that money on paying someone to run a cable from the aerial and fit a socket in the living room?

you need to follow the lead from the aerial to see where it goes to get a useful answer, the cost depends on the layout of the house. You could also use freesat

indoor aerial may work fine, it depends on location, only 1 or 2 of pounds at your local discount store. Walking between the aerial and transmitter could possibly cause picture breakup, it's better if it's next to an outside wall
Don't you dare criticise what you cannot understand

The aerial/satellite hardware you use for Sky will still work with the Sky box once your paid subscription is closed.

We have an indoor aerial from Argos. It looks like an aeroplane wing and has a plug in mains booster.

It works fine in our house, even without the booster, but we are within a few miles of a relay mast.

You might need a Sky FreeSat viewing card to continue using the Sky box. Indeed Sky+ won't work.

You can get a regular FreeSat + box and use the Sky dish. FreeSat and Sky both point at the same satellites.

We cancelled our sky and have done nothing with our setup. The free channels still work through the sky box, no change of card or anything.

I think you can see what channels you will get by just removing your card and flicking through.

Sky+ will not work nor will you get access to any recordings, and we can't use the catch up services through the box either.

Have you actually cancelled sky yet ?

It may take longer than you think:

See this weeks watchdog, the sky bit starts at 22 mins:

i cancelled sky a few months ago. took 15 minutes. They did try to offer me incentives, but just said no thanks.

got regular weekly emails offering all sorts, but had no bother really.
Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today!
Cos if you do it today and like it...You can do it again tomorrow.. :p

    Calling is much better.

I tried chat the other day, when requiring some information and , obviously my question did not fit anywhere in the script of what appeared to be a foreign call centre, as I constantly got stock answers or repetition of my question...until I gave up and called.
