It's probably worth contacting places locally that have archives- Cathedrals, Historic Homes etc and asking. Often they are crying out for people . If you have a local history society that's often a good place to find out too.
Duchy, I've already done so! Have been in touch with Durham Cathedral Library about their project. They are moving at present and told me they will re-start in spring so to contact them again in Feb-Mar. I can only take part in something like this on a weekend day as I'm still working full time.“And all shall be well. And all shall be well. And all manner of things shall be exceeding well.”

I certainly at times could do with a 36 hour day as sometimes it seems I am always on the move, but I certainly don't vegetate in a chair ,that's for old people I am a great believer of use it or lose it :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: U3A is brilliant I could be out seven nights a week if I had the time0 -
You sound like me, Jackie!
U3A is great and takes up much of our time. Yesterday I tried out the writing group. I was a bit nervous as I haven't shared my writing with adults for a while. It seemed to have been appreciated though.
We're off to see Jersey Boys with U3A tomorrow.
Tai chi in a minute. Not a free day this week.Member #14 of SKI-ers club

It has been a busy but nice few days, crafting classes and an all day crafting group and when home spent time on getting various things sorted esp my pension pot, so have been looking at charts etc and prepped for limit buys on various shares, it takes a long time to do it properly.
So a day at home today and it has to be cleaning, washing tidying. Little friend does the floors and all I have to do is the tops and then steam clean any floors that need it. He has finished the bathroom and en suite and is now cleaning the kitchen floor. I have already got the dishwasher on and a few bits washed and on the drainer. Will take 10 minutes to finish and polish with a microfibre cloth. Am still in my dressing gown, always potter like this to start, washing is on too so will change in a mo and then finish the bathroom and en suite before restoring the bits I moved off the floors. I think he will be good to do another two rooms before I have my coffee and he parks to re-charge
Maybe allotment this afternoon as I have to get some more stuff into the compost bin and will likely sort the freezer out ready for a meat delivery in a couple of weeks, was too full for a delivery sooner. I bought wild rabbit this time as cannot digest beef and want lean meat as organic as possible
I am lighting a candle for 11 am and will be in my thoughts for two minutes
Plenty of time later, to get cracking with my hm socks. A present for someone who never gave up on me and rang time after time from across the world. Fine nice socks on 4 mm double pointed needles. So a busy but nice day ahead
10.30 and am too tired to think of allotment or freezer today. I did all the downstairs skirtings and still want to steam floors downstairs and bathrooms. I really do always try and sit down in the afternoon for a bit, have to at my age. Still got all dusting upstairs, got to keep on top of stuff as my inclination is to be messy so have learnt to put stuff away
Reading, radio, knitting later, all sprats to get this mackerel work finished, so no dithering woman :T0 -
shattered and finished for today. All downstairs is good, did the windows last week and the stove yesterday. Still got bedroom dusting but hey ho, later maybe. Definitely deserve a treat day tomorrow and will go to a nice market town and get lunch out and then maybe an NT property. . 3 1/2 hours I reckon and that included lunch and a coffee break. Not bad and am learning to keep doors shut when I am not in them, saves dust settling. No wonder my mother and her generation had a definite weekly programme, must have been hell without the modern gadgets, so they just had to keep on top of it0

I have had a busy day today. The electrician came round today to sort my conservatory lights - no lights for about 9 or 10 months and he fixed them in a few minutes and charged me £5. Got to love that - maybe I'm an old lady:rotfl::p
I have almost finished cleaning all the windows for the winter. I clean outside and inside of one window a day weather permitting so just the bathroom to do. Changed the curtains in 2 of the bedrooms but that was a struggle maybe I shouldn't be climbing ladders at my age. :rotfl:
Just downloaded an ebook from my favourite author so feet up pot of tea and that's me sorted for a while.
One of my friends became a grunnie again today so a wee celebration tonight for her new grandson.0 -
Well... I've just read this whole thread (phew) and it seems to have wandered a wee bit, so could I answer the OP eliza here.
I too live remote and rural eliza, and I love it. I lie in bed every morning and smile at the sound of the cars going up the main road quite near my house. Smile because I don't have to do that any more!
I get up when I want - hubby gets up at some unearthly hour but I leave him to it. I do whatever I feel like doing, as to me a routine=work, which is a 4 letter word. I read I knit I spend a lot of time online and in between I clean the house and tidy the garden. When I feel fit enough I walk round the village, and when I feel bored or restless I take the bus up to Edinburgh.
I've joined online free courses and penpal sites -and now have half a doz penpals in different countries to talk to. I worked all my married life and I think I've earned a rest, I keep telling the hubby we're on (permanent) holiday now0 -
off to over 60 keep fit in a bit, when I come back and have prepared lunch, have to do that or I`ll be comfort eating, then I will settle down to trying to sort out the re vamp of myself. I bought 2 colour me beautiful books from amazon, they were very cheap and today will cut out little squares of colour, put on a card, laminate it and use that to start sorting my wardrobe. They have a very useful pie chart ie different proportions for what type of clothing you actually need. This is very good and made me realise that I have far too much allotment clothing and working outside clothing. For example I anticipate max of 6 weeks holiday a year so those holiday clothes should only take a small proportion of my wardrobe as I could in reality use the same ones ones three times ie a max of 5% and that is generous as I want to include some glittery things. I think I will start work on that today, as well as the colours. As an interim, I will just have to use a separate section of my cupboard for clothes that are too good to throw out. Should be an interesting project for me as am not naturally stylish0

I spent a few hours yesterday just setting up my new singing dancing dvd player. I didn`t know how singing dancing it was until I read the instruction book. I spent quite a while crouching below and to the side of my wall hung tv, taking cables out, swapping around, using set up but not wanting open access to my basic router. All done. It seems to show all the freeview and radio channels and all the tv channels are in hd, it even seems to upgrade my older dvds. I tested recording on it yesterday and was successful with my little pony, so have set it to record two films on different channels to those I will be watching. All electronic equipment is complicated these days, even my new bedside radio/cd with this and that input, not speaking about my ovens. Well all a bit at a time and again it is a good time to learn now, all before I get too old to bother
Today is just faffing, I mean some housework, wardrobe sorting, stove cleaning etc. Pottering but it all adds up on my fitbit, I easily do 5000 steps by evening if I keep moving
I am trying to change my eating habits somewhat ie smaller and closer with a decent vegetable meal at 3. Maybe that will stop me nibbling after lunch0 -
Have not read the complete thread yet so will read it in parts as my vision is not what it used to be.
Here is my story. Iam home due to severe heart failure and have other health issues too, also osteoartritis since 2 falls one fall in garden and one fall from stairs. I go outside for my dr appointments only. Monday I had hospital my cardiologist and end of afternoon dentist. I seldom do 2 same day but being november all slots were full so no choice.
Mornings I do my housework in little bits and slow what a normal housewife would do in one hour takes me all morning and some.
I can not get to the shops. The last thing I used to do was the grocery shop but had to give that up too.
Afternoons I try to do some hobby or crafts, some rest, but my osteoartritis is also now in hands and wrists so it is just short time I can do.
Garden I have the hips with osteoartritis so gave that up too.
My teen daughter comes home from school, we talk about school , have a cup of tea,
she starts her homework.
I cook the dinner. My partner he has busy work. We have dinner. He works some more or goes to a spinning sports class his hobby. I watch some tv or am online at some forum or browse things online. My daughter does more schoolwork listens to some music. Both start early so quiet evening. I wait to take my last medicines and then try to sleep. Rinse and repeat .... I used to like to travel but stopped that too... Visited London UK way back in 1994.
My best friend who I met online lives in USA so sometimes I have chat but my friend also has very busy work schedule in the USA.
Washed all my net curtains last week wanted that done before the Xmas. Sorting out my clothes slowly all them gardening oldies can be removed. Sorted out my card making items made 2 xmas cards.0
