Lovely thread to read and helping me think through how I would like things to be when I retire, whether doing some part time work or retiring fully.
I think that there are some free OU out there. It doesn't fit the brief of meeting others but could be very interesting especially as winter draws in. I know there was one I was interested in a while ago but just felt it would be additional pressure rather than enjoyment. But if there wasn't that pesky thing called work then maybe.0 -

I didnt try 4 Extra, but I will now, thanks:)0 -

I suppose I could carry on listening while doing other jobs in the garden, but I find those ear things simply do not fit me and fall out, usually right at the denouement! However, while cleaning the glass and putting up bubble wrap, it's brilliant. I download them at work where access is unlimited. The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.
Thanks to everyone who contributes to this wonderful forum. I'm very grateful for the guidance and friendliness that I always receive from you.

I invest on the stock market, that is how I built up my husbands pension pot, he let me take it over completely in 2006. Prior to that I had learnt how to trade the stock market but the pension was a different kettle of fish. I did a lot of learning, did the transfers and eventually vested the pension and arranged pension drawdown, all the time buying and selling shares as appropriate. I remember a man said to me `excuse me but don`t you think you should leave all that to a man` I had to laugh, I saved my husband many thousands in ifa fees and have doubled the pot value. Anyway yes d70 is right, if you have an inkling for maths and charts, then doing the stock market is so satisfying. I was a physicist so have that sort of brain. Some people just couldn`t do it, no-one else in my family does it. I was trading all thursday afternoon, selling
Today is meal sorting and a tip visit again and I have bought a radio times sub as I keep missing good stuff on the radio, also missing some good tv programmes
It has been such a good change this week, no longer the very hard lifting and carrying that made me ache. Aches are just about gone and I have started making socks again. I feel on a much more even keel and quite happy in spite of the very dull rainy day.0 -
Lots more interesting responses since I was last here, thank you. Aren't we all so different in our interests?!
I have done quite a bit of painting over the last few days, so the landing is much fresher (no natural light) and briliant white is definitely the way to go. Have bought more paint today so about to attack the bathroom next. I went for a long, scrambly, rocky walk with a friend on Thursday, slept well and ached the next day - which is good, shows my muscles needed the challenge. Have also read - a lot - The Sunrise, Salmon Fishing in Yemen and now Tenant of Wildfell Hall. Last weekend I also read Vera by Eliz von Arnim, which had such a depressing end that I was glad of Salmon Fishing to cheer me up!
Now getting ready for arrival of 4 teenagers for half term .............and of course, it's raining!!! My house is tiny, this will be fun.
I hope people don't think I'm unappreciative of all the suggestions. Although recipes, crafts, golf, joining things etc aren't my cup of tea, all the ideas have helped me to think hard about what I do and don't like. As well as keeping a lookout for good WEA and U3A talks, I'm thinking of getting another dog (mine died last year, I still miss her terribly) as I love walking, and also maybe joining a book club. I think I'll look for an online one first though, to get the feel of it.
I'm also seriously going to look for another job too, I need to be part of the economic world a bit more.
Again, thank you all so much, please do keep your daily routines a-coming in. It's so helpful.0 -

That is the sub I got, 12 for £1. I won`t be cancelling the DD, it`ll be an ongoing purchase
Eliza, I hate painting, I hate moving everything and all the prep and mess. I do like the effect afterwards, nice and fresh. I`ll have to get the hall/landing/stairs done but will wait until spring now, also a couple of other areas. I am getting a decorator in for any jobs now, there is no way I will tackle ceilings etc. I know my limitations these days. It is still daunting though, all that upheaval0 -
Had to just pop in and let you know what I've been up to this weekend.
After yesterday morning's dog walk with a friend, followed by coffee with said friend and husband, I got down to my weekend jobs. As it was raining, I did the indoor ones.
Got the ladder from the garage, moved some furniture and took down the curtains in the bay. Heavy! Then with my trust Makita, I drilled pilot holes for two further supports for the plastic rail. Replaced curtains and voila! The rail no longer dips.
Well, said I, the ladder is in the house, let's replace those halogen bulbs in the bathroom with the LEDs which have been waiting for months to get some attention.
Then it was a cheeky G&T, after which it was time for evening dog walk. If you like dogs, I can't recommend having one strongly enough! You meet so many interesting people and dogs.
Today, morning dog walk and coffee is now over and it's time for the outdoor jobs. Strimming, cleaning the greenhouse (finally) and perhaps cleaning the wall where the pigeons insist on pooing as the bricklayer would like to take photos of his handiwork. Glad he's as pleased as I am with the job.
Now where is my phone with the downloaded stories on it?“And all shall be well. And all shall be well. And all manner of things shall be exceeding well.”

I like it lisa, another big fan of makita here. The drill is just right for me and can easily drill into a wall for rawlplugs. You just put g&t into my head, lol fever tree and gin are already in the fridge, I`ll make one in a mo.
Been to the allotment all morning, strimmed long grass paths and long grass elsewhere, hard going today as grass was wet. Cleaned the strimmer thoroughly as it is going up on the wall for winter. More chopping of plant trimmings for the hotbin. Picking raspberries
I am liking LEDs, have replaced some but the other bulbs are nice and I`ll replace if they ever dim. Managed to stay awake an hour longer last night and was raring to go by 8 this morning and am now sitting inside in the cheery sun and it is only just after 10
