They have threatened it half a dozen flipping times.
They keep passing it to debt collectors etc etc who threaten it.

Their claim is to have supplied energy from 05/13 - 09/14 at a previous address. They contacted me late 2014 to collect the debt for which we provided evidence we was with a different supplier - I gave them copies of the invoices which had the meter number, address and bill total etc.

Not content with this they pursued the non-existant debt, failing to respond to all my correspondance adequately.

WHY WON'T THEY JUST UPDATE THE DARN ACCOUNT OR SUE ME SO I CAN SHOW A JUDGE THE EVIDENCE AND BE DONE WITH IT ONCE AND FOR ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:mad::mad::mad:

5x emails to a range of debt collectors or their complaints email
1x letter
2x phone calls

All useless, either ignored, supposedly passed on the evidence to relevant department or couldnt help -- ye real helpful.

HOW BLOOMING USELESS CAN A COMPAN BE!!!!!!!!!!!!

VENT OVER.

Why don't you just sue them for harassing you?

Debt-free and Proud! I've been Money Tipped!
Why not just make an official complaint with OFGEM instead of wasting your time and energy with NPower!

I'd be more concerned about my credit rating being trashed by having debt collectors on my tail as the debt isn't yours so I'd want it sorted pdq if it were me.
What did you put in your letter?
I'd say it was time to start threatening back -
I'm sure I've seen a template on here for a letter to companies chasing for debt that isn't owed.
Isn't there an official body you can complain to?

My credit status is poor as hell anyway (bankrupt a few years ago) so not bothered about that at this point. When it's all resolved I can seek to correct my credit file.

    Love the pun :)

    Will look in to this.

Send ONE recorded delivery letter to nPower and ONE to the debt collectors. Cease and desist, no phone calls/emails/removed implied right to visit. Allow them to correspond only by letter. Charge them £150 per call/email/visit.

I had a second phone line with BT which went faulty. 3 missed appointments and numerous phone calls and they hadn't fixed it for 5 months so I stopped paying. BT passed it to a DCA whom I sent a cease and desist. Unfortunately/fortunately they sent me an email and I sent them an invoice for £150 combined with a Letter Before Action. Got letters from BT and the DCA telling me they were no longer pursing the debt and a cheque for £150.

I had a similar thing with a private parking invoice and debt-collectors. Even after I told Roxburghe to stop harassing me and take it to court they continued to send me stupid letters about how I had X days before they would do something. I think I had about 12 letters in total before they stopped bothering me but never took me to court.

    That isn't possible.
Debt collectors have no powers. They cannot take you to court. They cannot send bailiffs round to your house. They cannot affect your credit rating.
All they can do is send bog paper begging letters, and poor quality bog paper at that.

In order to have your credit rating affected to you would have to: -
Go to court. (Debt collectors can't take you to court.)
Lose in court. (Debt collectors can't take you to court.)
Not pay the court costs in the allotted time. (Debt collectors can't take you to court and don't get costs awarded to them.)
Get a CCJ set against you. (Debt collectors can't do this as they can't take you to court.)
ALL of the above has to happen to get your credit rating affected, and no debt collector in the land can do this.

You are mistaken. Many companies can make themselves self alleged creditors and put the debt in your credit record and they can allege it is late or even defaulted too.

And debt collectors can take over those same debts an themselves make further entries in your credit record, alleging that the debt has become further defaulted or remains unpaid.

    From The Money Advice Service:
How lenders decide whether to lend to you

Banks and credit card companies use a variety of different information to give you a credit score, which determines whether they will lend to you and at what interest rate.
Credit scoring can be based on information such as:
    • What you provide on your application form
    • What the lender may already have about you, based on previous accounts you have with them, and
    • Your credit report, which is held by one of three credit reference agencies – Experian, Equifax and Callcredit
You’ll also get a better credit score if you:
    • Own your own home and/or have lived at the same address for at least a year
    • Are on the electoral register
    • Have a good credit history by repaying other credit agreements on time, for example your gas and electricity bills
    • Have evidence of stability – for example you are employed rather than self-employed, you’ve lived at the same address, worked for the same company and had the same bank account for a long time
    • Are not connected financially, through your mortgage or joint bank account, to people with a bad credit score
Good enouigh reason for me - speaking personally - to want to get this sorted out rather than waiting for a company to take me to court just so I can prove to a judge that I'm right and they are wrong.
