Curiosity would get the better of me, so I'd be asking Santander. Hopefully the OP feels the same and lets us know.

You mentioning curiosity has made me curious now :D

When I get a minute, I'll contact them and ask for a reason.

It just seems strange that they have paid interest on this date when it's normally the 26th, the same as when they take the fee and pay DD cashback.

Does SELECT show in your online banking?

No select showing. I have just sent a secure message asking the reason.

Did you have an outgoing payment investigated by the Santander fraud department? I seem to remember reading somewhere that sometimes they close account during such an investigation, and that triggers interest payment.

Interested in the response you will get from Santander.

    Could be something in that.

On 15th, two days earlier, my online banking was blocked. Got it sorted out later that night via phone but fraud department were involved.

The reason for the fraud trigger was a payment that I had set up that afternoon. I set it up but didn't make a payment. The payee set up was one of my own TSB accounts. I did it at work on my PC and I did have to enter a OTP as the computer wasn't recognised.

A pain to sort out but I don't mind the hassle when banks are being proactive in preventing fraud.

Glad you could resolve it. We need to remember this for next time someone asks.

Rather than starting a new thread, thought I'd ask here. Can someone confirm whether the date on which the monthly fee is taken is the same as the account 'anniversary' date. I'm a little confused over the implications of accounts which don't use calendar months.

    Key Facts Document says:
The monthly account fee is taken for the previous month on the same day each month on the date the account was opened or transferred.
