This is nothing new I know but for once they have got me thinking.
Apparently Ofgem have stopped the 28 day rule where you get to change your mind about your supplier and switch. All suppliers are going to fix you into a 12 month contract with penalties if you try and leave. they reckon once they have tied you in then they will hike up the prices.
This bloke reckons that if I sign a form they have then I will be able to give my meter reading in 5 weeks and after that I don't need to bother as someone will come round and do it for me. They also said that in 2010 there will be new meters coming out with chip cards in the back that will automatically send you readings to them. This is going to cost the customer £35 for the new meter instead of the original £100.
I have just done a search on Ofgem and found this

I told him I was not going to sign any form until my husband came home so he is coming back. I thought this might give me a chance to look more into it.
What do you think?

Don't buy anything from door to door salesman, they are only interested in their commission! If you want to change your supplier, enter your previous years usage in kWh, into several price comparison websites i.e. ukpower energylinx:doh: Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

That's why I said I wasn't going to sign anything, my husband in great in getting rid of people like this.
He did also mention that comparison sites like USwitch are going to stop offering gas and electric swoops because of this new rule.
they are so very clever and sly but I never agree to anything. If I am going to swap anything with anyone then I want to sort it out my self.Keep smiling, it makes people wonder what you're up to.0 -
Just be careful they haven't forged your signature on the form - happens a lot.0

OH NO!!!!
Ive just done this too! only I DID sign up for it!
I feel so stupid now!
I did compare prices and it came out as Scotish power so was going to switch anyway, salesman just happened to knock before I manged to do it!
What should I do?:money: Martin Lewis Rocks!:money:0 -
Hi pegginout was there a number on the form that you signed? The one I was showed had a free phone number on that you could call and tell them that you don't want it.
They came back at 6.30 like that said they would and hubby told them that he wasn't interested. They tried to persuade him but he just kept saying not interested.
We both looked at a newspaper piece about Ofgem and they reckon that it will do both the supplier and the customer good by switching to fixed term.
Who knows? They all say what good they can do and all say that they can not be beaten by anyone but they all talk poo.Keep smiling, it makes people wonder what you're up to.0 -
Some info here: http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/consumer/bills/article.html?in_article_id=422983&in_page_id=510
Note these 12 month contracts have not yet been introduced by any supplier for residential customers, and when they are you will still have a choice of a shorter term.0 -

Their should be a number on the paperwork they gave you to call and cancel it.
Then if its what you want sign again via Quidco and earn a cashback of up to £55.

I did check on TOPCASHBACK but they didnt do scottish power so. I dont use quidco coz im too mean to give them the first fiver!!!
The salesman did say it wasnt a 12 month contract so can always swop again!
How long have i got to cancel it? I think he said 7 days, he may have just made that up tho!
If so its 8 days so will have to leave it!:money: Martin Lewis Rocks!:money:0
