Cat being stolen by neighbour opposite!

When I was a child we had a cat. One night a kitten followed my father home and it stayed. Our cat was not happy butput up with the situation, spending some of its time in the house of a neighbour.
However, in due course the new cat had kittens. Our cat came in, saw the kittens in a box in the kitchen and promptly turned round and walked out again.
It took up abode with the neoghbour and never returned to us.
My son currnetly has a cat who started staying out all night. One day an elderly gentleman came to the door and asked if they had a black cat. They answered yes , thinking the cat had been injured or worse.
He explained that he had got a female cat for company after his wife died and my son's cat had taken to visiting and staying all night. Well he does get fed fresh fish for breakfast.
He does return home from time to time, sometimes just to check out his dish but if the offering is not to his liking he goes out again.
My son laughs about his cat visiting his lady friend.

I think the main problem is that she is feeding the cat. Without being fed the cat would come home for that and maybe spend more time at home. Perhaps just visiting the woman in the day. Could you tell them not to feed your cat as it's on a special diet?
I had a cat that kept visiting me and spending all day in my garden. Took it to be checked for a microchip as was worried it was lost, and it lived around the corner from me. Turned up that same afternoon after owner collected from vets with a collar on with a phone number, I texted them to say cat was back, was happy to have cats company and wouldn't feed it and gave them my address so they could check for cat if they wanted it. They were fine with that.
For the next couple of months, until I moved, the cat spent almost every night with me. It would leave early in the morning, I assumed to go home and be fed as I wouldn't feed it.
I was very happy with that as it was a lovely, affectionate cat. I didn't know the cats situation at home. Maybe there were other animals, maybe he wasn't allowed to sleep on the bed so he came to visit me.0 -
One of my cats left home last year. She only tolerated her brother and two younger cats and took up residence with a young family with no other pets. They came round to confess to feeding her, she was clearly happier there than with us and they adored her. So, reluctantly, we relinquished our (clearly) nominal ownership. Haven't seen her since!
I was really upset but felt it was better for her to be where she wanted to be (and the other cats are massively more relaxed).0
