Toshiba and Sony were two of the better brands, but yet you've had 'issues'.
You write of freezing, but no mention of troubleshooting the cause.
I have a feeling that you will have issues with whichever brand that you purchase.
No one can assure you that you won't have issues with another laptop.

So perhaps you should learn to troubleshoot simple issues instead of buying a new one each time.

To be completely frank, I think the problem is with you. Anyone who buys a laptop from PC World and 'insures' it with them likely needs electric shock treatment. Accidental damage cover is useful, but....The likelihood is that you don't have a clue and take it to them for each and every issue without understanding what is going wrong.
If it is freezing, why don't PC World fix it under the care plan for which you have paid/are paying?
Perhaps the shock treatment might help with the attitude problem at the same time.

If you can't give advice on which laptop is a good deal/brand then why bother replying. Move on to the next thread. Easy.

Electric shock treatment not required, bill shock treatment from PC World normally suffices.

    A question for the OP:

how long have you had the laptop and and how long have you being paying the insurance ?

If you add it up, it probably exceeds the cost of a new laptop.

I've had it 5.5 years I think and yeah the policy I took out probably exceeds the cost of a new one, but that said, I have had new motherboard, dvd drive, screen, 3 replacement keys & 2 hard drives in the past 5 years.

I'm not sure if there are some posts missing here, with the mention of ASUS but I have just bought this one. i5, 8gb of ram and full HD screen for £399.

PC world are often uncompetitive but occasionally produce a bargain and this is about as good as I could find.

Thankyou. I'll go read up some reviews...

I've never taken it to PC world for software faults, don't make assumptions. I'm fully aware that I could do a system restore or factory reinstall, but I have chosen not to.
The bottom line is this - like it or lump it. Had I wanted a new battery then I would have purchased a new battery. I have specifically asked advice on a new laptop & specified that long battery life is essential for me, not that I wanted advice on batteries.

Six years and I've only replaced a capacitor on my Toshiba.
You must be unlucky or just really clumsy.. What a shame.
    Good luck

Wow what an achievement. Blue Peter Badge coming your way!

Hard drive/motherboard failure = Clumsy? Okayyyy.

Don't bother to reply. Really unsure why when anyone posts looking for specific advice.. they are met with people like yourself.

No one on the board likes an ingrate. Have you noted the lack of input to your thread?

Now off you pop to PC World. You are their perfect customer. Don't neglect to purchase their full insurance.

You could save yourself several £££ by doing what folks have suggested.
Nifty recently advised me on fixing my F-i-L's laptop - it cost him a tenner, when he was quite prepared to pay 2/300 for a new one.

You pays your money and takes your choice.
You have made your choice but don't get cross just because someone else suggests you could be a *Money Saving Expert*

That's a big word - does it mean they are ingrateful???

Perhaps the OP had some kind of mental aberration, as they appear to have forgotten that they wrote in post #4:
I'll let my son have the laptop because he is fine working from mains power because the battery isn't great. For me that travels alot, I do need a good battery.

So I link to extended batteries that will make the laptop more useful, if only for her son....and she freaks out.
That's clearly not acceptable behaviour...even if she forgot what she wrote earlier.

@ Niftydigits I am sorry. I didn't realize you was meaning purchase the battery for my son. If that is the case then I am sorry. Yeah he can have my current laptop and purchase a battery if he wants.
