personal recommendation from someone off here would go a long way in forming my decision
I agree a recommendation is ok, but, we all expect different things, what one person here is happy with, someone else will hate it.
For example we stayed in the britannia international in Canary Wharf last year, from a recommendation. It was just an ok hotel, yet when we stayed again at the Hilton Canary Wharf, that hotel was amazing, cheaper and friendlier.0 -
is this good for New York?
£649.20 flights for two (including taxes) for the summer?0 -
325 a flight... not a bad price... very vague though, as I have no idea what airline, airport, flight times, etc are.. if it is from heathrow, you could do better, if it is from Manchester, Birmingham, its ok, if it is from edinburgh or glasgow, its a bargain..

Can someone please advise which is the best (and most reasonably priced) way of getting from JFK to Manhattan? Is it best to just jump in a yellow cab?
Also, anyone been to the River Cafe under the Brooklyn Bridge? OH has booked a table here for us but just wondering if anyone had been.
Thanks0 -
A yellow cab is certainly the best way but far from the cheapest way, personally on our last visit me and mrs phatbear took the airtrain to jamaica station then got onto the subway, buying a metro card as we went, however we didnt have much baggage and our hotel was only two line changes away.
After a long flight, and if its your 1st trip and your a tad nervous about the subway, then i would suggest a cab, however make sure, with all cab trips in NY, that you know the cross street you want to go to.
all the best

Hi,
My first post... apologies if it shows!
Looking to travel to NY 04/12/08 - 08/12/08 or there abouts, appreciate it's not the cheapest time to travel.
We like the look of the Sofitel (3rd on trip advisor),
Quotes seem to be coming in at around £1,000 per person (staying in a deluxe room with early morn departure, late evening return fliights with BA.
I know that this isn;t the cheapest way to do things, but any help would be greatly appreciated.0 -

So what's the question?
My thoughts:
Should you travel with BA (No )
Should you spend £1000 each to go to New York for 4 days (No )
Each to his own of course0 -
I'd never spend big money on accomodation i always favour reasonable in a good location, ie near some life but more importantly close to a subway. On our last trip we stayed at the hotel grand union, the place was far from 4 star however it was clean tidy and 2 blocks from esb, flat iron and macys and the same block as a subway.
If you are gona make the most of NY you will spend so little time in your room it wont matter about 4 star luxury, id rather save the money and go to a show have a few nice dinners etc.
all the best
