Please help, computer not starting and freezing

I would be extremely grateful for any help or advice. My computer operating system windows will not load properly and is freezing.
I have recently (yesterday) downloaded Ad-adware, Spybot search and destroy, a-squared and ewido and these have been installed and run and found various nasties which have been locked in various vaults. I then read about Avast and decided that I would install this (although I have already got AVG) downloaded from site - then restart the computer to complete and nothing works. I have re-started it about 6 times this afternoon hoping it would self-cure, remain an optimist.
It appears to be doing something as timer is showing as it has been doing for the past 90 minutes
I can move the cursor (timer) around the screen but cannot click on anything.
Thanks if anyone can give me ideas of what to do next.

Could be the Anti-Virus conflicting each other.
See if it lets you boot up in safe mode. This is done by pressing F8 whilst the computer is booting.
If it lets you in try uninstall the anti-virus for now.0 -
which operating system ??
if Xp you will need to start in safe mode and run the virus software and spybot after turning off sytem restore...
it may be worth restoring to an earlier restore point if you have one to get the PC to boot up, then boot into safe mode and do the above (you may need to reinstall AVG etc if this was done after the restore point)
Boot into Safe Mode:- Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8.
A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode. - To get back to normal mode just restart the computer as you normally would.

After tapping F8 before the Windows logo appears, you should have a screen saying 'Windows Advanced Options Menu' - white text on black background - and the first option is Safe Mode. See the screendump here - http://www.theeldergeek.com/repairing_windows_xp.htm. Is that the screen you're looking at?0 -

On the other side it has administrator or Pollen - which do I use and then what do I do.
Thanks for help so far0 -
safe mode might be PF2
you will have menu options like safe mode with network support, you want the one without network support
