Displaying data on a web page.

I've got a computer program that downloads data from the Internet and then makes some calculations for me. It's written in vb.net. What technology do I need to make the results of these calculations available on a website?

I don't know much about it, but I guess Javascript would work. Or, if you want to store the data in a database, SQL...?

You need hosting for a website first, or at least access to one.
Many such services include support for databases and scripting languages, from which you can create pages that will query other data sources and display what is found.

Are you looking to press a button and the updates automatically appear on a website? Or are you looking to manually take the results and update a website?

I have hosting for a website with 1&1. I gave them a call but they were absolutely hopeless, didn't have a clue.

Anyway I think it's something to do with asp.net, so I'll have a look into that.

The user needs to be able to press a button and the results then be calculated to appear on the website.

They wouldn't offer support for something like that. Doesn't mean you can't do it though.
It might be that jQuery will be sufficient for you to get what you want. Depends where the data is coming from. If you need to make it available in a local database, then PHP and MySQL are free services that I believe 1&1 offer, and could do the job. Bit more work involved in that though...

It comes from betfair's API using JSON.

Then jQuery could probably handle it. But would betfair allow you to process their data and re-present it elsewhere without a commercial licence (although you may already have that)?

    Yep, see here:

Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.

Not sure. That's something I'll have to think about. I'm not actually looking to re-present it, rather to use it as the basis for some calculations, so it's fairly far removed, but sure, it's an issue.
