I use online bank statements and online utility bills for ID - I just print them. My solicitor accepted them as proof of ID recently as did my mortgage providers when applying for a new mortgage (bank statements)

I didn't know that!!!! Thank you.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but has anyone had to give their mother's maiden name as part of a DBS check? I have been asked to and I am reluctant, because first of all what on earth does it prove about me, and secondly, far more importantly, financial institutions ask for this as part of confidential checking.
I have been on the government site and cannot see that they ask for it as part of the DBS check.

    .
It depends on the DBS requested, Your mother's maiden name is required for Counter Terrorist Check (CTC), Security Check (SC), Developed Vetting (DV)

You can answer you don't know all of the information but the name will be on your birth certificate which you may need to prove your identity in any case so I'd just answer the question. If you didn't answer it it might show that you are trying to be evasive for some reason.

If a financial institution asks you for your mother's maiden name you can give any answer you want as long as it's the same as the answer you gave when you set up the account. I give my maternal grandmother's maiden name to banks. It's not on my birth certificate should my birth certificate ever fall into the wrong hands the fraudster would get the answer wrong if they went through telephone banking and were asked for that.

Cheers, but this job has nothing to do with the armed forces or any government department, and it will have nothing to do with sensitive material or data of any kind.

These checks are not just for the armed forces or government departments. Private companies also have secrets which can be worth millions if not billions to a rival company. They wish to be sure of who they employ.

Andy GB, I had to give this for Disclosure Scotland and for working at live gas projects, but not for the DBS form for volunteering in school. In fact had to give GRANDMOTHER's maiden name! Had to say I didn't know it and she may not have had one as she was Native American and born in the 19th century. Didn't stop me getting my clearance.
