Workman was supposed to come this morning but messaged 20 min after start timr saying stuck in traffic. Calls an hour after start timr saying van overheated and not sure if he can make today depending what garage say.
I'm paying him 4 days labour from today. I've booked off work today.
I'm not sure if he'll be here today.
Where do I stand? Shall I give benefit of doubt and chalk it up and see what happens today / tomorrow?
I've paid for all materials which are on the van.
He sounded genuine .
I mean I've got other things to do today so not totally wasted for me. But guess he'll have to work quicker now and maybe get here one day the following week when I'm off. Just wanted all sorted this week

Nobody can answer this for you and although it may sound suspicious there could be as he explained genuine reasons and he may turn up Tomorrow for you, If he fails to then you know you have been ripped off.0

His excuse is probably a load of horlicks but you have no other real option but to contact him later on and see if he intends coming tomorrow.0

Anyone's guess. I've been waiting 2 days for my guy to turn up, but that's how it is around here. Que sera and all that.
I'm fairly sure he will, though....I owe him £700!:rotfl:0 -
Another annoying thing - he had agreed to buy materials for it and pay him. When we couldn't arrange a suitable time on that day despite me offering to go to his house and pay him, he got me to pay the place over the phone with my card. I didn't buy if that's what we agreed to originally but thought it was an off move tbh.
I asked if he could complete job in 3 days maybe and ge said posdibly but sounded uncertain.
I could have been at work today. Do I have grounds to renegotiate the total price paid if he completed Friday to Sunday?
Yes probably BS excuse. ..but I guess we've all cancelled something somewhere in life where we've had genuine reason to do so but unable to divulge the full story etc. But hopefully no one lost out - as I say I've got plenty to do, but j could have been paid for going to work ...which is the annoying thing.0 -
I’d say that would depend on value of materials If they have really been purchased and are on there van? If answer to latter are both no and values high then you’ve been ripped of if answers yes then chances are they are genuine,,,, You could always offer to arrange transport for them and materials to site ?0

Tell me you haven't paid him for the four days, just the materials....Je suis sabot...0

Oh I don't think for one second I've been ripped off. The materials are low value, specific to my tastes, low in volume and for a small room. He couldn't do anything with them.
I paid the material place directly. I have all his and their details. I trust him to not do anything criminal therefore.
I simply question if his reason today is genuine and venting my frustration for losing a day at work and this work maybe having to go to a day next week to complete. I guess we'll just see what happens later.0 -

Yes I paid for the materials to the supplier. I know who I spoke to as I visited the supplier at the weekend and it was the same guy over the phone who I met in store.
Everyone is so suspicious eh!0 -
No can possibly say if his excuse is genuine or not. Even if he said he couldn't make it because he'd been kidnapped by aliens and transported to the planet Zog, then there is still a small chance that he might be telling the truth. So I'd give him the benefit of the doubt until he doesn't show tomorrow.
Why are you concerned about how many days the job will take, unless you've agreed to pay by the day (always a mistake). Otherwise you'll pay the quoted price, whether it takes him 3 days or 4.No free lunch, and no free laptop0
