And now you're arguing that other cars might be faster, as if that matters. Only a few posts ago you were saying your Corsa was fast when no-one else had brought performance into the equation - YOU were the poster who wanted to make performance into an issue. You need to decide which side of the fence you're going to argue from.
I don't really understand what you're disagreeing with here, I've simply pointed out that just because you think Vauxhalls are good, that doesn't mean we all have to agree with you; neither does it mean we all want to drive Ferraris.
I've been just as happy with my Triumph, Volkswagen, Fords, Mitsubishi, Renaults, Nissan, Mazdas, Subarus, Skodas, Volvos, Jeeps, Peugeots, Citroens, Rovers, Fiats and Saabs as I have my BMWs and Audi. I don't give two hoots about what badge is on the front, I buy a car to do the job I need it to do at that point in time.
A car is just a car getting you from A to B. for me my Vauxhall is fast enough - was using speed as a example to say it doesn't matter. on public roads you have speed limits so just like a Ferrari my car can also easily match its speed. you haven't really said why you dislike Vauxhalls? there maybe other more expensive cars with more bells and whistles but who really needs them most of it is gimmicks.0 -

Nothing wrong with an Astra - see if you can get an estate in budget though, you'll never complain about the low loading height or the extra boot space when you've got a buggy to fight with0 -
I would go for an estate, as the boot has to be big enough for a baby pram. Also the extra space in a larger car is more cosy and less claustrophobic for a familly and it is what families need. Also an estate can handle airport luggage if the back seats fold but then where does the baby sit? Better to get a car that is too large than too small. When you look into an abyss, the abyss also looks into you. Nietzsche
Please note that at no point during this work was the kettle ever put out of commission and no chavs were harmed during the making of this post.0 -

There are cheaper cars than Vauxhalls as well, some of which are, in my opinion better quality.
Vauxhalls are OK, but I've never found any of their models interesting. They're just beige, and far more beige than the Japanese and Korean competition at that.0 -

Hardly representative of anything though is it?
If you had checked a few weeks ago the first page had threads about VAG cars.
The Autobox concerned is likely knackered due to the first garage it was sent to being useless and not spotting the actual problem.
Any a vehicle displaying a fault code is hardly newsworthy.0 -

One thing that is better in a Meriva or similar is the height of the seats and making it easier to put a child in a seat or similar.
The slightly higher driving position also suits many people, especially those who want a vehicle that is easy to get in and out of.
Which might explain why the Meriva, Note, Fusion et all are fairly popular with Motability users.
To be honest a Citroen Berlingo is decent no frills motoring that would fulfill most people's needs.
They are cheap and robust.
Though I am not going to pretend they are exciting to drive, they are comfortable, sliding rear doors are practical and the rear door is perfect when taking kids to rugby practice and provides a nice place to change muddy boots, you don't even get wet.
But fun? No, not really. I would much rather have another V50.0
