We won!
Just checked my bank account and we have, at last, won our case against the Council. While we were unemployed they miscalculated our Housing Benefit, and when we queried it, they stopped it all together! After providing them with some extensive evidence to show them that my calculation was correct and theirs was wrong we just received the missing £266.

Cheers, Ally! That's a decent wodge of cashola, which clearly should have been yours all along. Full marks for tenacity!
Thanks those of you who have sent suggestions for postman's cryptic scrawl.
Ally - I did wonder if it was 'Brown bin'. Neither of our bins are brown. One is silver & one is green. However, I looked in both in case postman colour-blind. Nothing there. And he has defo ticked the box to say it's gone back to the sorting office.
FVD - 'Brown pkg' is a possibiity. mr f (who is also now as intrigued by this as me) suggested 'Brown bag'. Why would I need to know the colour & type of packaging of my parcel? Unless he's included that note for sorting office staff to help them find it more easily when I call to fetch it tomorrow? I don't know. Still looks like 'Brown pig' to me. I honestly don't know of anyone who has sent me a package. I do competitions/prize draws, but mostly for cash, vouchers or weekends away. Sometimes my parcels turn out to be big boxes containing tiny item (amongst acres of bubblewrap) for testing which I've got via online surveys, but I'm not due any test products that I can think of.
Oh well, all shall soon be revealed. It's probably something very mundane, the likelihood of it actually being a brown pig being exceedingly remote, I'm thankful to say!

Morning all

Thanks for the start CCL
List for today:
[STRIKE]Check banks[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]Find dental appointment card and write dates on the calendar so I don't forget[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]List of what I have / need to buy for the things I am going to make / bake for baby GD's christening on Sunday[/STRIKE]
Make and freeze some scones as that was one of the things DD has asked me to do. OH is going to cook some large pork joints for her, so it would be good to get oven things out of the way early! OH worked for a while for a company that did posh hog roasts, so he is the family expert on all roast pork related matters
Not done this, one for tomorrow I think
Meals from stores / garden Done
Make tomato and basil soup for lunch, from HG roasted tomatoes Done, enough for tomorrow as well
Give bathroom a good clean Done
Groom and exercise pup Done
General tidy up as the place looks as though a bomb has hit it (probably launched by baby GD and her puppy sidekick yesterday :rotfl:) Some done, more needed!
Find paperwork for OH's truck and look up when his tax and insurance are due Done, it is this month, boo
Walk to sales unit to see if any restocking / tidying needed Done, not going to be a good month this month
Any surveys / FPL Done
Put away clean laundry dried yesterday Must do this in a minute
Right, that lot should keep me busy! Hope everyone has a good day
Hmm some progress. Felt a bit down this afternoon, for no reason
which probably prevented further progress. Still, another day tomorrow
BTW, I did roasted veg with sausages today. Does anyone else do this, or fancy trying it? Basically, you cut up whatever veg you like/ have (bendy ones are fine
and roast with a couple of cloves of garlic, a couple of tablespoons of olive oil, a couple of teaspoonsful of fennel seeds and salt and pepper. Today I used: a large courgette, some carrots, beetroot, celery, some shallots that needed using, a few salad type potatoes, a red onion and some cherry tomatoes. Cut each sausage into 4 and toss together with the other ingredients (although tomatoes are best put in about half way through) and roast at Gas 6 or thereabouts until veg are tender

Hello all
CCL thanks for the thread, I think you have started it the most this week unless I am much mistaken? Thank you. It's always such a nice feeling to log in and see it there.
Ally- thank you for the information on oyster workings that really was helpful and interesting.
Foxgloves - how mysterious! Also, I sent you a PM earlier in the week. Did you see?
Determined - hope you feel better now?
Chocolate lover - oh dear that doesn't sound good. Hope things improve and hugs until then.
LegoMum- your use it up menu sounds good
Dawn- sorry you felt down. I wonder if the gloomy weather contributed? Your recipe sounds lovely and wintery comfort foodie.
FVD -I'm really happy that you sound so busy and in demand at work. Things are so much better for you than at the start if the year aren't they
Kickuptheass- well done on remembering your packed lunch it really is like burning fivers buying lunch every day.
Wanttobe- nice to read your lists hope you enjoy the thread.
Ziggy- did you bake?
Carrie - hope you got the spare room sorted out.
So my lists etc today.
1. A large package arrived from my husbands Auntie for the baby. She is very generous and sent about 8 full brand new mother care 3 to 6 month outfits plus £5 for my son. I honestly don't know how this baby will ever wear all the clothes we have. I haven't been able to bear to put her in anything but white baby gros so far as she is such a tiny girl and I don't want to rush the newborn phase any quicker than it will pass anyway.
2. I have had word back from FA that our life insurance/critical illness covers all child dependants so no need to amend it.
3. Solicitor says no need to amend will either. If I or other half dies the estate passes to the remaining spouse and if they die passes on to any children on their 21st birthday whether 1 child or 7.
4. Used up some cooked chicken on our dinner plates tonight.
5. Hired a dvd for free from the library using our points.
6. Checked both sets of banking. Paid business rental.
7. Paid invoice for works to guttering at the flat.
8. Walked all journies
9. Kept on top of the house/admin/organising diaries for 4 of us now (the baby has more appointments than me what with health visitors, drop in clinic, midwife etc)
10. Made use of free things from the bounty pack.
Think that's everything!

Good evening everyone!

Another day closer to the weekend, and another week closer to half term. Work was very busy today but ok - I think I've just hit the wall a bit with the workload etc.
Ziggy - no luck with the doctors appointment unfortunately - but it's next Friday so not too long to wait. DH has confessed to me tonight that he doesn't want to be around people at the moment - so no hope of him going back to work any time soon I wouldn't think.
Ally - so pleased that you got the money that you were entitled to.
Foxgloves - when I get one of those cards through the door, it always has a description of the parcel on it - it's to help the people at the sorting office find it quickly (at least that was what I was told). I hope it's something lovely for you.crazy_cat_lady wrote: »

Definitely leaving the housework to dh, and he can get the garden winter ready as well.
Dawn - I'm definitely going to try sausages and roast veggies.
Hey Bob - you sound so busy at the moment. Hope you're doing ok. I have started the thread lots this week - because I like to be accountable before I go to work in the morning, and make my pledges for the day ahead. So I only have until quarter to eight to post...

Evening all
Today I found 50p on the floor in Aldi (biggest find to date for a long while!), so that's gone in to my change jar. I also managed to bag up another £2 worth of copper coins which I need to pay in asap.
I also found a Tesco receipt with 3 points to add on to my card.
I had lunch at my friend's house...she makes a mean beans on toast!
Had to buy a few essentials, but all in all, quite a low spend day.
Debt as of Sept' 2015 (LBM!): £36,351  (sickening)
Monthly outgoings on debt alone: £1243/month
We're on the right path, we got ourselves here..we're a bit lost, but we'll find our way back again!0
