Let me guess, is it using old software versions and selectively applying patches manually sometime after release after an unspecified delay?

Our workshop pc is set to 'Check for updates and inform and allow me to download', or however it's worded.
It may only be turned on once a week to look for info, it may only be needed for 5 mins.
With a download speed of 1Mbps, we can't wait while Windows Update hogs the connection to download 100MB of updates. Once it's been finished with, then downloads can be manually downloaded.
    Move along, nothing to see.

I did notice that Windows 10 wanted to download onto my machine the other night (as an "important" update). I've unticked it but not hidden it for now.

Apparently Microsoft said it was a "mistake" that they had it ticked by default. Yeah, right...

  • Of course the end result will be the opposite of what MS wanted.....people will instead be turning off permanently and for evermore any further windows updates.
Thereby leaving even more machines unpatched.

I'd expect there to be some bodges/shareware to cover it, or even just firewall out microsoft.com!
