  • Yes, well, my husband scores on more than one criterion in this category, but someone has posted here that if this happens they just give you one (highest) score.

Perhaps this could be clarified as it is quite important?

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton

Unlike the Physical descriptors where only one is chosen - ie Sitting it is either a,b,c or d,- 1 or 2 points is available for EVERY Mental Health descriptor - ie Daily Living it is a,b,c,d,and e. Up to 7 points are available for Daily Living.
  • Thanks stazi, that makes sense!

Well after answering those questions I get 41, I have my PCA on Friday so I’m wondering what will happen. It’s the same questions as on the IB50 if I remember rightly, I filled that a good while ago, nothing has changed with my condition since then, and in fact it’s now worse due to an unnecessary operation!!

I’m a bit nervous, I have heard so many horror stories about this medical, and how the doctors have pretty much decided before they even see you!
Please be nice to all moneysavers!

Most people have a fair medical and get the correct result. On boards like these you usually only hear the bad stories as people need help so it gives a false impression. From what you say you should be ok so try not to worry too much.

I certainly hope so, thank you very much for your reply.

  • The medical my husband attended was fine (although he was nervous). No-body is out to 'trick' you. Just make sure you answer the questions accurately (don't exaggerate or minimise your condition) and you should be fine.

  • Just one observation, regarding the section on seizures or something simlar, the table on here shows 15 points if you have had one in the last month,my understanding is that this has been changed to 12 points, although having at least one seizure a week still scores 15 points

    hi,

well following on from my medical its look as though i had good reason to worry.

i have just received the results back from the medical, and i only scored 6 out of the 15 points. and following that they have stopped the benefit.

the 6 points i earned were for "only being able to turn a tap or oven control on with one hand and not the other", and that was the only points i gained.

im a bit worried as looking at the rest of the answers they have decided its as though it was someone else answering the questions. yes i told him that i struggled badly with taps and cooker controls etc, i also told him i cannot lift anything with my right hand/arm, and that i can only life a small amount with my left arm. i mean my mum who is 66 has more capability then i do!

as he started asking me how i was mentally, i.e, he asked how is my confidence, do i need encouragment to get dressed etc, i admitted that following what has happened that i don't feel safe going out on my own etc, and that i feel like half the person i was etc, i did get a bit upset, as soon as this happened he said right you can go home. im not sure if he had asked me all the questions he had needed to or not.

i am writing to them to ask them to reconsider before i appeal. the doc who did my test quickly looked at my various report from surgeons, consultants, physios etc and just said i dont want to see these?? yet today when i rang the dwp and told them i had taken the reports to my medical and he did not want them they were horrified and told me i should have made him photocopy them to include with the report?? this is the first time i have ever claimed anything, and tbh dont know how people who 'play' the system manage to do it.

im hoping it all goes ok. i have had so many of my so called friends turn round and telling me im putting it on etc, even some of my family, to have someone else turn round and say the same is really hard. I had an MRI scan last week and so far my physio has told me that the discs in my upper spine are bulging.. she cant say if its causing my probs for sure but she said it may be tied in to it, im waiting to speak to my neurologist so i will see what she says
