Sorry to be the deliverer of bad tidings but,,,,
    Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]:31.5 / 63.5
says you are on a very long line indeed (that 63.5dB downstream attenuation is the highest the router can report and it could in truth be even higher.
    SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]:13.0 / 6.7
Says you are running on the default settings so it isn't a case of dodgy internal wiring causing you to be penalised.

The ~ 1Mbps downtream you are getting is about all you ever realistically will get on that line with ADSL technology.

if you are far away from an exchange 5km? there is little you can do, check samknows etc for whats available at your exchange, infinity would be better if available

Broadband speedchecker says 'no data for your area'

I'm quite close to one exchange (3km or so) but probably 5 or so from my own actual exchange.

Sam Knows says I am in a broadband area 'However, the quality or length of your phone line prohibits you from receiving ADSL of any speed.'

Thanks everyone, all the signs are that without moving house I'm stuck with it like this. Seems as though I should be grateful just to get what I am getting!

Backwater Britain again....The Country really needs to get the rural areas sorted. I'm getting a constant 150Mbs here, yet a mile down the road they are lucky to get 1.5Mb.
I think if the OP gets all the locals together they can approach BT to hurry up fibre to the area.

It was a significant factor in my decision to move, although my speeds were considerably lower even than yours. Now I get 89 Mbps down and 6 Mbps up (although I've just run a speedtest and the down speed is less than half that, which I hope is just because of the time of day, if not I feel a call to Virgin Media coming on).

    Some things to try perhaps...

    1) A shielded telephone cable from the test socket to the router. I got an extra 2 or 3 Mbps when I was on O2 ADSL by replacing the normal telephone cable for a shielded Belkin one (it's silver and is a similar thickness to a LAN cable - I'm still using it today for my Plusnet Fibre).

    2) Try a different router - some are 'better' than others at connecting. I seem to recall those with Broadcom chipsets would achieve higher connection speeds at my exchange when I was with Sky (as the kit at the exchange used Broadcom too). I never bothered changing mine though as I was already syncing at max speed, but could be worth a try if you can borrow one.
