Cashback on contactless debit card

Hi
Not sure if this is the right place to post this...
Does anyone know if you can buy something for a couple quid and ask for £25 cashback and then pay £27 with contactless?
The fact that TSB gives me 5% back on contactless payments has nothing to do with this question
Thanks

I've always had to insert my card and use the PIN if I want cashback from my contactless card.0

Not come across cashback when using contactless.0

I believe the cashier only gets the cashback option after the card is presented, so it will not work with contactless. Also, in my experience the cashback is given in multiple of 10.0

I hadn't used contactless for awhile so thought i'd try it telling the cashier i wanted to use that option i then remembered i needed money out of the bank so thought i'd do it there rather than going to the ATM.
The cashier told me you couldn't get cashback on a contactless transaction so it had to go through the usual method of chip and pin.
The only way around this would be if the cashier put the transaction through as a product and then gave you the money instead. This happend to me afew years ago when using my credit card (non contactless) at a small rural pub i hadn't brought any money and was just getting a round of drinks came to under 10 pounds the minimum CC transaction was 20-30 pounds. She put it through the card and gave me the remanider in cash.
I'm not sure how often that goes on and i doubt the bank would be happy if they found out.0 -

It depends on the type of retailer I suppose. My local pub does cashback on contactless because it just puts the whole amount through as a single purchase. Lots of smaller shops will probably do the same.0

that's right...if a retailer bypasses the system they can do this.
but strictly speaking cashback is not supposed to be offered to people making contactless purchases.0 -
Makes little difference to the bank but the merchant will be in breach of their agreement and liable to chargeback.Kernel_Sanders wrote: »Wouldn't it be to their advantage if their commission is a percentage? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Doesn't it make a mess of their accounts? It will look like they've sold a lot more than they really have, and there will be less money in the till than there should be.0
