**octagon cancelled car insurance **

Hi,

i have been with octagon since Feb 2015, and was well into getting my second years no claims with them (1st years Tesco ) until i telephoned the other day to inquire about a change of car !

see im a rover enthusiast, and currently have an mg zr diesel ( same as rover 25 ), and the opportunity arose to purchase a rover 25 van, of which are few and far in between these days,

now its essentially the same engine/body as the mg zr so i rung octagon and inquired whether i could change my insurance over, after going through the details the lady said, im sorry we cant insure that vehicle? i was somewhat surprised and asked if they had any temporary insurance available so i could get my van home,, to which i was told that they couldnt insure the van at all !

so.. after all this i bought the van and got it insured with another insurer and kept the mg on the octagon policy, until today ive been told by email that my insurance has been cancelled ! and after asking why, they said it was due to an an uninsurable vehicle - ie the rover van ! and that they sent me a letter in september, which i never received, and informed me of cancellation by email today?

NOW at no point did the policy change from the mg to the van ..

i did not recieve any policy documents or updated premium

so i cant understand why they have cancelled?

Do you still have the car?

Why did you ask to swap the van over in place of the car?
  • hi, i still have the car,

and initially i asked to swap the van over so i could drive it home and was planning to use it until feb and source a good multi car policy etc

but when octagon said they couldnt insure it , i got another provider to insure it

So did you make it clear to them that you did not want to cancel the policy an keep the status quo on the car
  • yeah, i told them, i cant understand why they would cancel my car policy just because i asked them for a change in vehicle which they declined anyway?

    best of it was :

ive been driving around all weekend uninsured !

You need to make an "Official Complaint" to Octagon.

They're obliged to properly investigate the matter and report back to you within eight weeks.

The key to a successful complaint is to be polite, stick to the facts (Don't get emotive / mention your poorly mum etc), keep it concise and identify what you want to achieve with the complaint.

If you're still not happy you can then go on to the Ombudsman.

I would include in the complaint that you require them to retain copies of the phone call as you may request a copy / transcript of this in the future.

Initially a quick call to them may achieve a quicker result although experience in these matters would lead me to suspect a call is unlikely to resolve this

Simply rubbish company ever , I just changed my occupation and they told me we can not cover you any more , after 10 month payments and full year pay , they told me they won't refund any money that they took and also £50 cancellation fee , I would never recommend any one to buy insurance with them , even they do not send me the NCB guys take my advise avoid so call octagon

This would have happened whoever you were insured with if your new occupation was one they don't cover.

(It's you wanting to move the goalposts, not them)

Well al I can do is echo other people's opinions , they are a complete shower of a company to deal with -
My policy runs out in about 3 week's , they have had all the payments upfront and the policy is paid for , I don't wish to renew with them as they are quoting £300 more than last year , so I cancelled my direct debit just incase they try renewing the policy , I got a letter stating they were cancelling my policy early because the direct debit had been cancelled .
So basically they want a direct debit left in place even though they have had all the payments , I THINK NOT !
