Credit file and matching addresses

I am a little worried that different institutions have slightly different variations of my address and that when they come to do a credit search, that they won't find me because of this. (I have already had a rejection for a mobile contract when as far as I am concerned, I should be the perfect potential customer)
Some people have the word Flat in the address, some just the number, some have the town and borough rather than just "London".
So my question is, how important is this and how do I find out what the "correct" address should be?

Have a look on Royal Mail's postcode finder what the correct address format is.I'm a Board Guide on the Credit Cards, Loans, Credit Files & Ratings boards. I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly, and I can move and merge threads there. Any views are mine and not the official line of moneysavingexpert.com0

I've noticed that Natwest for instance will not change it to something other than what is in their database, so forced me to have it in a particular format....how am I supposed to handle this?0
