I have not checked my bank statement for a year , anxiety

Perhaps we should set up a mutual support group where those who check their multiple statements several times every day can share their concerns with those who don't check their single account statement for more than a year.
The aim being to achieve a sensible balance - a bit like Supersize vs Superskinny

I check once in the morning and once in the evening. I don't think it's excessive.
It takes approximately 15 seconds to log on through the iPhone app and check that there's nothing that has come out that shouldn't have.
I don't have phone alerts set up.
Part of check in the morning is "rounding" my balances and over paying my mortgage

i haven't been able to look because of anxiety. i take money out of atm, and its been fine and i don't buy much stuff. but i just feel ill the idea of looking at my statements. This is probably very unusual and not a safe thing to do? i m going to look at them tomorrow but i feel that i should drink first

I can completely relate to what you are saying. I thought I was alone to feel scared/anxious looking at my bank accounts or credit card accounts for that matter. Up until a couple of years ago I was not checking my accounts regularly but I do it each month now, its not easy and feels like I am drained up of all the energy but it is important to do it so I do it anyway.
Is there a name for this condition?Marriage is hard. Divorce is hard. Choose your hard.

No mate it has nothing to do with "buryingheadinthesand"
I believe I have a very good grip on my finances. I make decent money, have plenty savings, investments in shares, various current accounts & various credit cards, mortgage and I manage them all myself and have never missed a single payment in my life. There is just something about looking at statements or logging onto accounts which fills me up with fear/anxiety/dread.
I can understand that you might not take it seriously but for some people this is a very real issue which they deal with everyday.Marriage is hard. Divorce is hard. Choose your hard.

Same Q that the OP has already been asked (and not answered) to you: What are you afraid of seeing?0 -
user and amy, if you get into the habit and like using spreadsheets it can become fun to download your interest payments and check your outgoings, it's just a habit that grows on you!:money:“And all shall be well. And all shall be well. And all manner of things shall be exceeding well.”

I am not afraid of seeing anything. It is not a rational fear. I wish it was that simple. Its just like so many other phobias ... some people are afraid of good news (euphobia), some are afraid of bright colors (chromophobia) and so on. There may be a psychological reason behind it but I don't know what it is.Marriage is hard. Divorce is hard. Choose your hard.
