O/S Daily Monday 12th October 2015
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.
Morning everyone
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.
DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit, I’ll wake him shortly to get up and ready for school.
Getting light, looks to be dry underfoot, and hoping for another decent day as I have a load to put out on the line – I’ll do that shortly.
Meals yesterday were a bit disjointed, we got back at around 2.15pm so just had a snack and then I served ham, egg and chips for dinner. Tonight we’ll be having pork steaks, mash, veg, and gravy. We were stopping off for a late lunch on the way home but decided against it as we ate out last weekend and will probably have to next weekend, and I had bought food knowing that we would be out both days this weekend.
The meetings we attended over the weekend went well, and no surprises although when DH holds his own last meeting as he hands over to someone else due to serving the term of office in November that will be interesting – as there’s 3 nominations for 1 job and we found out over the weekend that another/other people are looking to be nominated also – so there’s definitely going to be a 3 way battle for 1 job which could turn into a 4/5 way battle for 1 job – let’s hope they all play nicely and we don’t finish up with dirty tactics! I say that in jest – I hope very much that’s the reality!
Back to work for me today, and hoping that it’s not such a manic Monday as last week, 1 of my colleagues said it was the worst and busiest Monday she’s ever known since she’s been working with us, so we’ll see! When I started we used to be busy every Monday and Friday, now we’re still busy but then have random days in the week where it can be a nightmare also. Although it was near the start of the month last week always our busier time.
Keep safe and well x

Morning all,
I've been awake since 5 which was the time hubby and Youngest went thundering down the stairs and off to work. It's Youngests first 'out of town job' and as he is working with his Dad, he will soon learn the ropes so to speak.
Dogs got me up half an hour ago and they have settled down again. I'll get up when I have to. It's going to be a long day...the first of many.
Onwards and forwards,
Have a great day all. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Morning everyone.
Still dark outside with a swathe of light just appearing.
Yesterday I did work in the garden and need to do a bit more today. There's various things scattered around which need to be tidied up and taken to the tip. I've also got a pile of rubbish to take too do it'll be a full back seat in the car.
A set of ready-made curtains arrived on Saturday but I think they'll be sent back. My made to measure ones from JL will be ready on Friday so I'm hoping they can go up in the spare room fairly swiftly. The ready made ones are fine just not 'perfect'. I'm dithering here.
The stairs will get a vacuuming today, a job I am always loathe to do as it's such a pain for my back. I need to work on my core muscles again.
I also emptied a very large shopping bag which had been lurking in the spare room since the move. It was full of more books, I've got about 40 unread copies which I need to get through. Very bad of me but I bought two more at the weekend!
Right, I'm going to lie here and watch the sun rise over the sea.
I really hope everyone has a good Monday.0 -
Morning all,
Looks lie another bright day in the making, off to work for me and DD OH is having the day off as he does not feel too well.
Got loads of jobs done in the garden yesterday, I hope that was the final lawn cut for the winter but we shall see ! its looking a bit better out there atm.
Something with mince for dinner maybe a chilli, will get OH to cook seeing as he is off.
Got loads of washing done over the weekend which just needs putting away, will get the various peeps to do that today.
Mrs LW and Elona well done to your clever DD's xxxx
Have good days all xx0 -
Good morning all,
Quite cool this morning and a touch of condensation on the windows. Will throw them open shortly.
A day of housework today and using my new toy. I have a new carpet cleaner so I am going through the house freshening up the carpets for the winter.
I have a bolognese to cook today for our evening meal. I like to cook it long and slow so will prepare it later and put it into the oven later this afternoon.
HH I am sorry BIL didn't get to see MIL yesterday. You do realise after the poor lady has gone he will be on an enormous guilt trip. Good gracious he is a grown man and she is his Mum.
Have a good day all

Morning all Grrrrrr I just lost my post somehow so starting again!
A fine day in store but feels cooler and we are not promised much sunshine.
Want to pop down to M & S this morning for another pair of trousers. Got a pair last week and they are really comfy and a good fit. I got regular length which are fine with my heeled boots but want a pair in short too to wear with flats.
The start of another working week so back to wondering if we will get the phone call from the Royal Liverpool this week. I hate hassling people but I think I will ring them tomorrow if we don't hear today. Maybe they will be able to give us an idea of how long the wait will be before Mr TA is seen again.
I left some mince defrosting overnight to make either a batch of Bolognese or Savoury Mince for the freezer. Decisions decisions ha!!
GERS you sound as bad as me with your stockpile of books! I have numerous bags stuffed full of them, passed on by a friend and bought in charity shops, and I still keep buying more! I should get round to pruning them and pass on to the cs any I know I won't read.
Have a good day all ((((((HUGS))))) to those wanting/needing. Special hugs to HILSTEP. Once again I hope your fears are unfounded. Thinking of you. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Good morning everyone :hello:
It's a fine and bright morning here but there is definitely a nip in the air. I think I am going to have to start wearing a dressing gown in the morning soon and I also need a new pair of slippers. Hubby and 2 of the girls have gone off to work/school and I have the pleasure of my youngest daughter for an hour or so before she goes off to the orthodontist.
Well my DD14 dyed her hair last night from blonde to dark brown and now she looks just like her sisters. She has gone to school to make a 'grand entrance' and I'm sure there will be lots of pictures on snapchat etc, along the lines of "you're so gorgeous" "No, you're the gorgeous one" ad nauseum. I am so so thankful there was no such thing as social media when I was going through my adolescence.... bleached hair and ra ra skirts etc :rotfl::rotfl:.
I have bratwurst for tea, I'll serve them in a bun with fried onions and mustard. They are very filling so I won't make a side dish. I really need to rein in my eating again as I managed to put on half a stone since the last time I weighed a few weeks ago. No excuses, just me being a little oinker:o. I still have an account with weightwatchers so will start tracking everything I eat.
Well my friend is arriving in a minute for a cuppa and an update on her date last night, so I will go and put the kettle on. Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Good Morning everyone only 6 degrees out there this morning but another lovely sunny day, we are very lucky considering it's well into October now to still be having this protracted Indian Summer, I've enjoyed evry day of it so much!
Off to Mr.T this morning as I want to get some Marmade concentrated orange for marmalade which I'll make this afternoon as I already have the sugar and enough jars I'll make us 12 jars which will last us a year, I can't tell the difference between this and marmalade made from fresh Seville oranges and this is SO much easier!
A Cookie walk this afternoon is all that is planned in for today but I have no doubt that there will be things that need doing as well. Tomorrow and for the next week we are having a little doggie guest to stay in the day while Mum is out to work, she is Mollie the Collie and an absolute poppet, she was a friend of Dockys so knows us fairly well , she normally goes to her gran and granddad but they are going to be away in the day so lucky us, we get 2 doggies to play with and we'll walk them together in the afternoons, lovely!!!
Have yourselves a nice day everyone, Lyn xxx.0 -

Morning DORIS welcome to the family, this is the nicest friendliest thread around and we love having new friends to natter with, lovely to have you with us, Lyn xxx.0

Morning DORIS, you are very welcome. As Lyn says this is one of the friendliest threads, we never fall out. We might have a moan about what is happening in our lives, but the support we give to each other is wonderful.
We look forward to hearing from you again
