Sometimes the only way one can regard things as "Life is a b*tch and there are an awful lot of b*stards and b*tches out there - and its just as well I'm now aware of that fact" and move on (as you say).

Many people are weak and/or selfish and/or "delete as applicable" and that's how Life shouldn't be (but often is).

Sorry this has happened to you and you've obviously encountered one of Life's B*stards.

fingers crossed for you that it will work out next time....

(but I do agree with your basic stance of warning others about the little *****).
