Dilemma: Wine for Sis
FreeBear
Currently have a bottle of vintage wine sitting in the cellar that I purchased recently. The idea was to present it to my Sis on her birthday as it is the same age as her. However, I now find myself wanting to pull the cork and drink it myself rather than watch it disappear down her throat.
Should I tell her that I drank the bottle myself, or say nothing and just give her a box of chocolates & flowers ?

Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

You could drink the wine and refill the bottle with a cheaper wine and give it to her?
She'll be so convinced its a vintage that she wont notice its a cheaper wine :money:This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Why not invite her round to dinner and share the bottle with her? Then just give her a token gift to take home??0

If it's cheap enough that you're thinking of opening it on a Sunday afternoon it's probably not a very good vintage, so just drink it.
I would also try to think of a better present than flowers and chocolates as, no matter the price, it shows little thought.0 -

It most certainly was not cheap, and the reviews would suggest that it is definitely worth drinking.
I think Sis would notice the broken seal if I refilled the bottle with some cheap plonk. The bouquet and flavour would also give the game away unless I could convince her to lay it down for another forty odd years. With a light amber colour, reveals a nose full of elegance and character, where the dried fruits are blended with the light sensations of chocolate and coffee. In the mouth it’s an attractive, velvety and involving wine. Presents an excellent acidity, good structure and an amazing finesse. If you want to drink it, drink it.
That's what it's for.0 -
You bought it for a special occasion, ask yourself if today is that occasion, does it warrant glugging down an expensive bottle or would the price make it more suited to the occasion you originally bought it for? I think you know the answer! Resist, resist.0

How is this a dilemma?
It's akin to taking a slice of cake that happens to be the whole cake, like a greedy b*tch. Give, and wait until you are invited to share.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

Has something happened since you bought it for her, that's made you want to keep it for yourself and not give it to her?
If you do drink it, I wouldn't tell her, it's just mean. Unless of course she has done something to upset you and you want to upset her in return.0
