Cancelling and re-booking Sky broadband for Avios! Is this fraud?

Hi All,
I recently signed up for Sky broadband at a good price and was very happy (due to be installed at the end of this month).
I then discovered that if I had ordered via the Avios website, I would have received a massive 6000 Avios points for new customers. I called up Sky and asked if the points could be retrospectively added and they said no as that is a third party which was fair enough.
I then said my intention was to cancel and re-book via the Avios website and after checking, the guy said I was welcome to do this but this could be fraud. Is this true? Or just a sales retention trick? My thoughts would be that as a consumer, I can cancel as I choose.
Would like the Avios points of course but don't want to put myself in any sort of risk (however snall) Any thoughts...
