Morning all
Boys deposited at school/preschool so I have a couple of hours to potter about and maybe have a wander to the shops. DS1 came home with a letter yesterday with a costume request. Need to fashion something resembling someone who lives/works in a castle  Am thinking a pillowcase with holes for a tunic with a some sort of shield sewn on the front and a rope belt.
I love the way that school assumes all parents to be master craftsmen of costumes...
and I remember the "Castle" theme from many years ago....by chance we had a jesters hat so DS1 went as the court jester...it was something that stuck with him right through primary and junior school,he was nicknamed the jester as a result.
I also remember the year that it was "Romans" and we sent DS2 in a simple sheet and sandles...you cant always get it right, years later and he still refers to being the pauper at school when all around him were emperors
logie your idea sound perfect, its good to see that costume making is still alive and kicking!frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!
2017 toiletries challenge 179 out 145 in ...£18.64 spend0 -
Morning All - Just back from taking DS to hospital where his Physio has given his acupuncture for his shoulder hopefully it will make a difference. Great to see some "alternative medicine alongside mainstream" best of both worlds in my opinion.
Need a cuppa now and a quick read back.
Have a Good One! xx0 -
Morning everyone
For anyone still enjoying the NCG soup - it will be back up to full price at T's tomorrow but it's down to £1 at Morries, so free again until 25 Oct. Says on the back that you can freeze it for 1 mth.

Of course there's always things like people that muck out the stables
We'll see what it looks most like and label him accordinglyI love the way that school assumes all parents to be master craftsmen of costumes...

It's the lack of notice that astounds me. Clearly we are sitting at home waiting for their next request! The way my shifts fall I'm working 48 hours between now and next Wednesday when he needs it. They also asked that we go in for the morning to help with activities. I'll not be doing that as I'll have just finished a night shift. Sure most of the other parents will be working or have other plans by now too. Sure school will have had this planned for weeks but only just thought to tell us... :rotfl: The children will love it though. The activities planned sound like great fun and they are having a banquet too (food to be provided by parents :rotfl:)
Anyway, I'm off for a wander to the charity shops to see if there is anything I can chop up for fabric ♥ Worrying does not empty tomorrow of it's troubles.... it empties today of it's strength ♥0 -
On the discount codes MSE forum there is a thread about mag subscriptions with freebies.
Its worth subscribing to this thread - some good ideas for gifts - either you can keep the mag sub yourself and give the welcome gift as the present or the other way around or even both

I've had a snail mail from glamour today, just going to see if its been written up before

This caught my attention
Asda will announce on Tuesday that it has poached one of rival Sainsbury (Amsterdam: SJ6.AS - news) 's top executives amid an intensifying UK supermarket price war.
Sky News has learnt that Roger Burnley, Sainsbury's retail and operations director, is to join its competitor as its new chief operating officer.
The move will place Mr Burnley among the leading candidates to succeed Andy Clarke, Asda's chief executive, when he steps down from the role.
Mr Burnley's appointment will come just weeks after Asda reported its worst-ever quarterly performance, with sales from stores open for at least a year falling 4.7% in the 11 weeks to June 30.
Mr Clarke's future has been the subject of frequent speculation, although he has publicly insisted that he is "here to stay".
Senior Wal-Mart executives have been increasingly visible at Asda's Leeds headquarters in recent months as they take a close interest in efforts to improve the performance of the company.
His departure from Sainsbury's will come as a blow to Mike Coupe, who took over as Sainsbury's chief executive last year and who has also been battling to contend with the structural changes taking place in the British food retailing sector.
Intensifying competition from discounters Aldi and Lidl has had a substantial impact on the quartet of chains which dominate the industry: Asda, Morrisons, Sainsbury's and Tesco (Xetra: 852647 - news) .
Last week, Tesco reported a slump in half-year profits , with new chief executive Dave Lewis acknowledging that it would be a long haul to transform the company's fortunes.
In recent days, Tesco has unveiled a new scheme aimed at tempting shoppers from rivals by offering to match their prices even when products are on promotion0 -
MY MB order was still showing as processing yesterday and I was getting a sinking feeling about this - I always seem to be getting orders cancelled
so I sent them a quick email and this is the reply - how exciting is this :j
"Thank you for getting in touch.
We had an overwhelming success due to the promotions running last weekend and as such we have seen a slight impact on our dispatch rates. Never-the-less your was dispatched last night and should arrive with you by Thursday at the latest.
We understand your disappointment and as such have popped a selection of Luxury Miniatures in the post for you today which we hope you will enjoy.
We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused. Thank you for taking the time to get in touch and if there is anything else we can help with, please let us know."
Now all I need is a reply from Scottish Power to say they are reducing my direct debit and a £10 code from Bodens“Create all the happiness you are able to create; remove all the misery you are able to remove.
