Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone can help me. For a period of time I was working two jobs. I left one in June and an still currently employed in the other. Looking at my payslip for my current job the Total Gross Pay TD is approximately £2500 more than I have actually received. Does pay from your previous job show in your current payslip bearing in mind I earn't approximately £1500 from my old job in the same tax year.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

No, your payslip will relate to the actual job you are doing, is the £2500 discrepancy what you have paid in tax and ni?

It is possible that your earnings details in the job you left have been added to those of your job you are still doing. Full details are needed to see exactly what is happening.
    Old job
    P45 details from part 1A section 6 7 and 8
What did you do with your P45?

    New job
From each payslip gross taxable and tax paid with tax code, basis and month/week number.
From last payslip taxable to date and tax paid to date.
  • From my point of view, forgive me if I'm wrong, the discrepancy lies in the Total Gross Pay TD. My latest payslip states I have received approx, £8000. Adding up the amount I have received from my previous 6 payslips (in my new job) I have been paid approx £5400 (prior to tax and NI). I did earn £1400 from my old job although if you were to add that to £5400 it does not equal £8000.

I handed my P45 into my new employer.

I have a feeling my tax code has been wrong also.

    April - BR
    May - 454T
June - 454T (Left my old job 7th June)
    July - 605L
    August - 1060L
    September - 1060L

PAYE Tax and Tax paid TD also do not appear to add up.
PAYE Tax states £454.80 whereas Tax paid TD states £494.00. (latest payslip).

I keep a spreadsheet for my pay. Put in gross, tax paid, NI paid, pension paid, and take home pay for each month and get the spreadsheet to add up the totals.

Work out what I should pay over the year in tax and if it doesn't work out ask for a refund. I never look at the tax to date sum on the payslip just keep a tally myself. Keep all the payslips and if it doesn't work out by next April ask the tax office for a refund.

These tax codes certainly indicate that your second employment details have been included into your current employment details. Without the details asked for earlier cannot really say any more than that.

These gross figures do not appear to be the taxable gross eg BR tax on 719.57 would be 143.80. This suggests that you have something that is not taxable eg pension.
Does your payslip have a taxable gross pay column and taxable gross to date?

My first payslip for example states

    Total Gross Pay - £719.57
    Gross For Tax - £683.59
    Earnings for NI - £718.00
    PAYE Tax - £136.60
    NI - £2.48
    Pension - £35.98

Yes my payslip has both a Total Gross Pay (This Period) and a Total Gross Pay TD (Year to Date).

    Gross for Tax
    April £683.59
    May £433.93
    June £1003.48
    July £1003.48
    August £1003.48
    September £1003.48

    September Gross for Tax TD
    £7774.84

Something peculiar seems to have happened in the August payment.
I make the year to date figues for July to be gross for tax £4540.68 and tax paid £504.20 which is correct if tax code 605L is used.
Can you confirm these are the YTD figures on the payslip and then give the gross to date for tax figures and tax paid for the August payslip.

It looks like a second set of P45 figures have been added in to the August totals. At first I thought they were duplicating the first P45 figures but do not seem to be quite the same look like about £1227 gross and £12.40 tax is it possible you had any other employments? Will confirm these figures when I have the YTD figures for August.
  • Can you confirm these are the YTD figures on the payslip and then give the gross to date for tax figures and tax paid for the August payslip.

Yes that is correct. Julys payslip states:
Total Gross Pay TD - £4705.12
Gross for Tax TD - £4540.68
    Tax Paid TD - £504.20

    August's payslip:
Total Gross Pay TD - £6988.41
Gross for Tax TD - £6771.16
    Tax Paid TD - £470.00
Earnings for NI TD - £3880.00

I've only ever had the two jobs. The one I left in June and the one I am currently in at the moment.
