We also want to do DS's room by Christmas. It was the previous owner's grown up daughter's room and is not cosy enough for DS. It needs a carpet (currently laminate), blind, light fitting and paint. I am also considering bunk bends or a cabin bed. DS has decided on a space theme to match his current duvet cover bought for the new house (from B&M):)
I would like to do one wall in this paper https://www.paperboywallpaper.co.uk/childrens-wallpaper/brave-new-world with a matching roman blind (made locally from their fabric) but this may be out of budget so may have to have plain walls and the blind made. The lampshade alone is £75!!!
Wow, you really are getting on with it. I really like that wallpaper - we always really like restful colours and two or three colours in muted tones for bedrooms.
I was wondering if you could make a bit of a stencil, based on a traced shape from the sample you like and try that on a plain painted wall - we used to use double-thickness lining paper to cover the plaster imperfections at our old house (when paint effects were all the thing) - the effects we were using are very out of vogue but for a two colour wall I would always consider a stencil - pennies to make and a bit of "handmade" is lovely. The lining paper is only about £5 a roll so worth a try to see if you can make it work.
Of course this pre-supposes you have the time to do this - it is your time rather than theirs, hence the cost saving. The value of using a ready-made solution may outweigh this (you know the Oscar Wilde saying - people know the price of everything and the value of nothing!)
I just knew you would not sit back and just "be" in your new house. Making over the kitchen is a really good idea. We (well I) have been considering painting our cabinets to lift the kitchen (now nearly 12 years old and in good shape but looking a little dated).
I shall follow your progress with great interest!

Actually its this wallpaper! https://www.paperboywallpaper.co.uk/childrens-wallpaper/the-final-frontier/puzzle-blue-wallpaper
Time is the one thing I have very little of due to the hours I work and nights away from home.
We had painted cupboards in our last house for several years, first white when we moved in and then green. They were done in emulsion which isn't ideal and did get a bit grubby but was easy enough to slap another coat of paint on. We are using primer and eggshell in this house. We then had all the doors replaced by a local company and it looked like a brand new kitchen at half the price! The current kitchen units are solid and must have cost a lot in 1995 when the kitchen was put in but the doors are too dark and are worn out. It would cost a fortune to replace the whole kitchen and as we want to remodel the kitchen conservatory in to one room/extension in a few years when we can afford it a makeover will do for now.Save £10,500 - £2673.77 - 25.5%

Update on the weekend's to do list above, as usual put too much on the list to physically get done in time available
Tired tonight after flying to Scotland and back in 6 hours. Flying always makes me tired but I did manage to get some prep done for my interview tomorrow afternoon. 10 hour round trip for a 1 hour interview
DH and I both ran 10k yesterday and both were both shattered after it which is a bit worrying when the half is on Sunday! We have both ran further than this in training so hoping it's just a blip.
We took DS to Rugby training on Sunday and he loved it so have bought him some joggers and cheapo footie boots to start off with.
DH was a star and took DS for school shoes, footie boots, joggers and a rugby ball on his own which is unheard of. He even came in with a top he had bought for me. Really appreciated this as it meant I could get on with the interview prep.Save £10,500 - £2673.77 - 25.5%

I echo that - if in doubt, take a moment, remember to breathe a deep calming one and gatherSave £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)

No news on the job front yet.
The samples arrived for DS room. The wallpaper is fabulous but I am not keen on the fabric for the blind although it is a beautiful linen material. I will get a plain (possibly roller) blind instead in a grey/green or dark blue instead.
The plaster came Monday and Tuesday to plaster the kitchen where the tiles have been taken off and it already looks better
I am still working on my financial targets for the rest of the year. I am holding on to see if I get the job as there will be a pay increase but I don't know what package is on offer. I will set a savings, debt reduction and home improvements goal/budget
Food budget is getting tight again and I have 3 weekends to go!
DS is shattered after 3 full on days at school. He also has a party on Saturday and needs a costume for Monday as it is 'future job' day. At first he said astronaut  but has gone back to policeman which is lucky as I saw a top half uniform in B&M that would go great with his school pants and shoes. Trouble is it was in a massive B&M in Liverpool and I live in the North East! Fingers crossed they have one in my much smaller store on Friday.Save £10,500 - £2673.77 - 25.5%
