Independant Gas Pipes!
Help!
I'm just switching suppliers and have now got a letter to say that my gas is delivered via a pipe network partly owned by an Independant Gas Transportation Company which means my bill will cost approx an extra £30 a year.
They say these IGT networks are found on housing developments built since 1995. Does anyone have any idea why new developments are using these networks - just so they can charge more?
Makes it hard to get a good price comparison when switching, as I've only found out about this afterwards.

exactly the same happened to me when i switched to powergen. i switched to ebico who don't charge extra now. not sure who else doesn't charge if you are IGT.
Hope this helps

I found the same here in my 7 year old house.
As I understand it, rather than the developers paying to lay the pipes they get a company like IGT to do so. IGT then get their money back over the years from the homeowners. I found both Powergen (who supplied the last owners) and British Gas (who I decided to use) charged the extra and assumed all energy suppliers would.
Whether the initial saving is reflected in the price of the homes or goes into the profits of the developer is a debatable point!0 -
:T thanks, couldn't find another thread when I searched.
Maybe the price comparison sites should incorporate IGT into the comparisons so we get accurate prices to compare :beer:
